that would make clans that flew to las vegas from all other parts of the us, europe, and other countries (mmm brazil), hotels, and airlines a bit too unhappy.
    And canceling the tournament didn't?

Now hold on just a second. Valve never promised CXG ANYTHING. The only reason CPL had a server is because they did their homework and did the necessary setup for an offline content server. They covered their bases, while CXG assumed everything would fall into their lap with a 128k line. How bad is it to assume that a 128k line will server your tourney area, not to mention not even patch your tourney PCs against the blaster virus?

I'm sorry, but no matter what the problems, this points to poor planning and utter hubris. Fly too close to the sun, and your wax melts.

yeah so i'm actually AT the event (with GEMINI MAKE SURE TO DOWNLOAD OUR AWESOME DEMO: http://www.gotfrag.com/?node=demo&i... ) and here's what i think of this whole thing.

it is ENTIRELY CXG's fault for what went wrong (read: everything). we were the first match to play, it took us 3 hours to set up (no reforce, no mouse fix, no mouse drivers, broken computers). they didn't even have their own gui installed on the match computers. OUR team pretty much walked them through getting the machines playable.

even the america's army tournament we entered for lack of ANYTHING better to do (because of course BYOC didn't work) has been postponed like 4 times now.

anyhow, JOE HILL promised to refund travel, accomodations, and food expenses to the teams that basically got the shaft (read: all) so it's more of a waste of time than anything.

all in all COMPLETE lack of any clue as to what was needed to run this tournament. all time and effort was spent on promoting it, and making it look awesome. and no time was spent on hiring anyone with any working knowledge of CS.

they asked people to DONATE their PERSONAL call of duty CD to install on the tournament machines because THEY DIDN'T HAVE ONE OF THE GAMES THEY HAD A TOURNAMENT FOR (they said they "lost them all").

all in all pretty pathetic, and the people here have been pretty much strung along the whole time.

if we actually get our money back without having to sue CXG ill be disappointed but not pissed off. we'll see.

                      This is completely CXGs fault.

At CPL there were no steam problems due to the fact that they organised with VALVe, way in advance an offline content server specifically for the event so no internet connection was even needed.

". There is a long series of e-mails between Valve and the Cyber X crew, in which Valve said they would be on site to offer support, and a few other things. Valve didn't show, and what little support it offered came way way too late to make a difference."

VALVe's fault. They promised support and they gave none. Also, they shouldn't have to even play online if VALVe would do its job and release patches that are worth anything.

A lan center that I went to made steam without actually using it, VERY lan friendly, made for lan actually, you can still go online too.

http://www.lanwerxgaming.com you should see it on there. pretty cool.

What I don't get is this: We all payed for this game (it is sold in stores). This game is multiplayer only, therefore we must be able to play it online. Since we payed for it, it must be up all the item. I must be able to play for it whenever I want, since I payed for it. I don't care for any virus attacks. They should have more servers (or backup ones) for such events if they get a DDOS attack or something. This would definately not have happened with WON.
