    Online Gaming in China

Hello everyone! It's my pleasure to deliver my first New Year post. Are you ready? Go.

ManWithBEER reports on this article on the explosive growth of online gaming in China. Like other Asian countries such as Korea, games such as Counter-Strike are taking strides towards becoming a primary national pastime.
Better games have meant more online players: the China Center of Information Industry Development (CCID) estimates that there were 19 million online gamers in China at the end of 2003. This year the number of users is predicted to explode to 32 million and will continue growing to 48 million by 2005.
"Colon zero" indeed my friends. FYI, the population of my country, the UK, is around 60 million. A little context makes all the difference, eh? The first official Chinese event will include Counter-Strike as well as FIFA Soccer and Warcraft 3.

This interesting article also provides a few links to some more resources, so if this sort of this floats your boat, click here to read more.

Indeed Britain has a population of around 60 million. But China's population is just over 1 billion. Still, that makes around one in 50 Chinese citizens online gamers, still an excellent figure.

Nice to see a fellow Brit doing the rounds.

Anyway, I find it interesting that they'd play FIFA, considering that the Chinese are hardly known for their amazingly good football team.

I just thought it was interesting that soon, a number of people equivalent to the entire UK population will be gaming in another country.

                When I say 6 I actually mean 2 and a bit!

Sadly that's already happened to me once at a LAN center. Don't ask. Just don't.
