No Steam Update Today

Greg Coomer of VALVe brings word that the standard Wednesday update of Steam will not be released (hey, even VALVe employees take vacations). Instead of the update, VALVe wishes you happy holidays. What are you doing playing Counter-Strike on Christmas Eve, anyway?



The news from Greg brings diminished hopes from gamers backing a movement to change the money system of Counter-Strike, some of whom were hoping would be changed as a Christmas gift from VALVe. Proposed is a more spectator-friendly alternative that gives the Counter-Terrorists more money after a round where Terrorists let the timer run out. Rooker has made a plugin to do that and more, but it currently isn't endorsed by any leagues.

What the hell would be the point of saving, thats part of the stategy of counter-strike. This kills a part of money management. But of course we wouldnt wanna have to wait 3 whole minutes :/

I would venture to guess that the point of saving would be to get money. In its current state, the money system punishes the Counter-Terrorists when the Terrorists do not complete their objectives, and in effect forces the CTs to rush out and scour the map to find the Terrorists (if the Ts save) if they want any hope of money for the next round.

the money mod is a good idea, but not really necessary. each team gets to play on both sides, so all the advantages and disadvantages even out.

Yes. It evens out. However, the mod is designed to make CS less boring, for example, reducing the number of situations where the last terrorist alive camps for two minutes straight to screw over the CT's money next round.

naem : it isn't garbage. It's truth. a quarter of the servers I'm on have every good player whoring the CT team, and I think that the extra money pushes it a bit too much.
