Counter-Strike Teams to Face New Crises: Two Free Downloadable Maps Now Available

Microsoft Game Studios and Valve today announced that two new multiplayer maps for Counter-Strike™ for Xbox® are now available for free download via Xbox Live. The red-hot "Inferno" and fan-favorite "Office" are the latest urban battlefields on which to stage Counter-Strike's world-famous, action-packed multiplayer gameplay.

In "Office", counter-terrorists storm an office building to safely extract hostages from the clutches of entrenched terrorists. In "Inferno", it's the counter-terrorists who are on the defensive: terrorists must destroy two critical gas pipelines running through the middle of a small village. But first, they must defeat the counter-terrorists who stand in their way.

Counter-Strike, the most popular action game on the planet, explodes onto Xbox and Xbox Live, bringing with it unparalleled multiplayer tactical combat and new content exclusive to Xbox. Counter-Strike for Xbox includes all new counter-terrorist and terrorist teams, an impressive array of graphical enhancements and ultra-responsive controls optimized for Xbox. The heart-pounding action spans over 18 highly diverse maps including seven new multiplayer maps and 11 completely enhanced Counter-Strike fan favorites, as well as upcoming maps downloadable via Xbox Live.

The intense, team-based multiplayer combat of Counter-Strike for Xbox challenges players with two thrilling game types: Bomb Defusal and Hostage Rescue. Gamers have more than 20 real-life weapons at their disposal, including shotguns, sniper rifles, pistols and heavy weapons as well as new weapons effects such as grenade deafness and vision adjustments. HDTV and Dolby 5.1 support help add to the Counter-Strike experience, making gameplay even more compelling and immersive. Teammates can forget about frantically typing messages to each other; now they can bark orders at each other with the Xbox Communicator for the ultimate in tactical team-based play. The secure environment of Xbox Live ensures that gamers will experience nothing but cheat-free play. Xbox gamers can now battle against super-intelligent AI opponents offline in the single player game before taking their skills online against up to 16 players. Counter-Strike for Xbox is available for a suggested retail price of $49.99 (U.S.). For more information visit http://www.xbox.com/counterstrike/ (open - copy).

Counter-Strike for the PC is the world's most popular online action game. With approximately 2.5 million Counter-Strike players worldwide and over 100,000 of them playing at any given moment, the action is non-stop.

Founded in 1996, Valve creates entertainment software titles, including Half-Life®, Counter-Strike, and Team Fortress®. Valve's portfolio accounts for over 10 million retail units sold worldwide, and over 88% of the online action market. More information about Valve is available through the company's Web site at www.valvesoftware.com (open - copy).

Xbox (http://www.xbox.com (open - copy)) is the video game system from Microsoft that brings people together for the most exhilarating game and entertainment experiences. Xbox delivers an expansive collection of breakthrough games, powerful hardware and the unified Xbox Live online service. No shit?!. Guess thats what happens when u never read the txt file. And, well, the objective is just a bunch of boxes, which don't exactly remind me of pipelines.

The maps don't really need explaining do they? I'd be surprised if CSX players who hadn't played CS PC came here.

Though it would be interesting to see a great controller player vs. mouse players, it would be unfair, and also impossible, what with the different game speeds 'n' all. Besides which it would remove the no hacking facet of CSX which is pure gold.

Thanks to some dubious hackers back in "the day", it was possible to play Quake3 PC versus Quake3 Dreamcast. It was desperately unfair, as most people on joypads will never attain the same skill as those on KB+Mouse, so it would be very one sided. The console players would give up the game, MS lose money, and so support for CSX v PC online would be withdrawn.

                    I didn't download anything.

They were already on the CD, they just needed to be unlocked.

I wonder what else is on there?
