    Cliffe & The CZ Mystery

So maybe the headline sounds like a cartoon hour-long special, but we're dealing with serious stuff. Specifically, where the hell is Counter-Strike: Condition Zero? Keeping the company line going, Jess Cliffe has told GameSpot in an interview that VALVe has submitted Condition Zero "replication masters to Vivendi for manufacturing." He said that VALVe doesn't know when CZ boxes will land in stories, "but we hope they will be available shortly."

Sierra/Vivendi have been incredibly silent about Condition Zero. The game obviously won't be shipping this holiday season (or if it is, it will miss the best selling periods), and it's fairly rare that publishers will pass on the riches that come with a perfect Christmas gift release. My conclusion is that either the game isn't done, or Sierra/Vivendi are holding it back for some reason.

HomeLan Fed is carrying word that many e-retailers are posting delays for CS:CZ. Although this certainly isn't official word, the updated released dates may have something to do with a new release date list being passed around by Vivendi.

The rest of the Cliffe interview has some interesting revelations:
GameSpot: Will Condition Zero introduce new weapons and equipment to the Counter-Strike series? Will this equipment be available only in the single-player game, or will these items also carry over to regular multiplayer, as originally planned? If this is the case, how are the new weapons and equipment being balanced for use in what continues to be one of the most often-played multiplayer games around?

Jess Cliffe: The story-driven deleted scenes portion of Condition Zero does include brand-new weapons and equipment. New weapons include the LAW rocket launcher as well as the Galil, Clarion, and FAMAS rifles. There's also a slew of new equipment to master, like the riot shield, a blowtorch, and a fiber optic camera. We will release many of these incrementally, over time, into the multiplayer game.
I can't wait to blowtorch some terrorists!

i'm all for cz, anything to get the focus off the pre 1.0 maps, that are sadly lacking compared to visual masterpieces such as piranesi and chateau. i sure hope cz meets, if not exceeds those standards.

LET US REVIEW AND JUDGE GAMES THAT HAVEN'T BEEN RELEASED YET!

This is getting ridiculous, but it's not like it's angering me, there's plenty of good games to play right now, and I've got my XBox with XBox live too.

They put in a rocket launcher. Yeah, that's really realistic, "let's blast mr l33t crew into 20 pieces with a rocket launcher!!"

              Honestly, that's just stupid.

Valve is just really pushing it with the entire gaming community.

              lol @ mr. t btw

the LAW rocket launcher as well as the Galil, Clarion, and FAMAS rifles.
Isn't clarion's not censored name FAMAS, Mr. Cliffe?

the release date on vugames.co.uk is 2004 Q1, but still 2003 on .com

Three comments: First, Jess Cliffe mentions the FAMAS and the Clarion as new rifles. Well, the FAMAS is the Clarion, it's called "Le Clarion" by the French, though I have no idea what it has to do with a bugle. Second, did anyone notice the release date for CZ at the top of that article was listed as 3/16/2004? I don't know if that's what Gamespot has had up for a while, or whether it's been changed recently though. And third, the pic of de_inferno in the article showed yet another change to the look of that map. I had assumed that the changes in inferno from 1.5 to 1.6 were the only ones it was going to get, just a facelift that all of the maps would be getting eventually (like the update to aztec), to make CZ and non-CZ players compatible. I guess I was wrong.

Yea Narby's work for 1.6 got totally scraped apparently, and Inferno was redone. I liked it in 1.6. D:
