Although CAL's next season will allow use of the riot shield, and this December's upcoming Cyberathlete Professional League CS event representatives had allowed its use, Frank Nuccio has decided to ban the shield from the CPL event:
The CPL has decided to disallow the use of the Riot Shield in Counter-Strike 1.6, this is due to the few remaining inconsistencies that remain with this new item. Once these inconsistencies are fixed the CPL will once again review it's use in competitive play.Personally, now that CS 1.6 has been out of a while, I think that the shield really isn't such a decisive issue. The game hasn't been altered that much by its presense. I question whether this ruling is actually based on technical analysis, since I have seen no evidence of the shield still being "inconsistent," and have seen plenty in the community rabidly anti-shield for no good reason. After considering it, I trust that Frank's decision is a technical analysis, since listening to community demands is something that the CPL often rightfully ignores.
