oh no, not the resolution topic!
anyway... anything over 1024x768 is to high and anything under 100hz refreshrate is to low.
majority of the top gamers use either 640, 800, or 1024.
Not to mention they all use windows gamma jacked up and other things you typical gamers would consider "eww".Comment

ksharp, lol he is a real typical geek boy.
most of the reasons "pro gamers" use low resolutions is because they started out playing at this low res, and it just never occured to them to try others because they are used to low ones.
and i turn up the brightness on my monitor on maps like oilrig, havana, backalley etc, where it can get really difficult to tell apart models.Comment

That, and that you get better framerates at lower resolutions. If their graphics cards aren't Radeon 74000 1024MB cards, then playing at a lower res will make the video as smooth as possible. Of course, many of the top teams have video card manufacturers as their sponsors, so getting their hands on the latest hardware probably isn't a problem. :)

When 1.6 came out and the smoke grenade actually because useful and thus more frequently used, I found that playing at a lower res (and without anti-aliasing) made it possible to get through multiple smoke nades without any video lag whatsoever. Since many people jack up their resolutions and get video lag for smoke nades, a useful strategy is to exploit this and toss an SG into the path of an enemy and while they try to cope with the lag, blow 'em away.
Not to mention the fact that since an SG makes the same sound when it hits the ground as a Flashbang, you can often fake out your opponent by tossing an SG at the ground and run at them. Often times they're looking away, expecting to be blinded.Comment
