    IGN Rates CSX

In the latest CSX review to hit the 'net, IGN has weighed in with a rating of 7.9. The reason for the final score is quite interesting:
Counter-Strike is a decent game if you take it for what it is. However, I couldn't help but feel disappointed that neither Ritual nor VALVe nor Microsoft Game Studios seized the opportunity to make the Xbox version of Counter-Strike something more visually impressive and worthy of our attention.

As it is, Counter-Strike doesn't offer an online shooter experience like Return to Castle Wolfenstein or Rainbow Six 3 where there are unique styles and gameplay subsystems to keep us interested. It just offers a straight ahead first person shooter that's made it over from PC in better shape than I could've predicted. It's just strange that the game that inspired so many evolutions of the FPS genre is now back again on Xbox competing with so many games of its own legacy.
Counter-Strike's Xbox port is facing competition of its own legacy? An interesting look at things and a very thought provoking message.

Can the gameplay of CS really be improved upon? I think it has reached a point where it cant really with so many additions like the shield etc. Even though it is on a new platform (the Xbox), you cant really make any changes.

As for graphics, go easy on it, its modified Half-Life. You cant really expact much better, unless ya wanna run it at 5 fps in a firefight. I hear the Xbox runs slower than the PC version so any "improved" graphics might just be a frames hog.

Im a newbie...plz dont flame me.

Kind of true, CS gameplay has kind of grown old, the novelty has worn of. However, that is if you play CS on the PC and not the Xbox. For first time CS console players with no past experience with CS, it might turn out to be a great game.

Yeah... Tetris inspired Tetrisphere... but is tetrisphere really a better game just because it is newer? Hell, some games will remain fun no matter what. Look at super bomberman for the snes. It remains to this day one of my favorite partygames when I have friends over, and throwing in more items, types of people, etc. just adds unnecessary complexity to an already addictive and fun game. I, for one, am glad valve left this one alone and stuck to what has always made CS such a popular game.

i think it's agreeable that it's held solid reviews from all the companies 7-8 which isn't bad compared to the trash that's come out recently, it's probably a 7-8 to a consoler but a 3-4 to us PC players, need to remember limited res due to TV's not monitors.

                Yes.

What is this guys fascination with rtcw????? CS has been interesting enough to be the top competition game for a looong time now, and I don't think it will be that different on console.

Agreed completely. The guy talks about 'new features' and the like. Funny, last I knew thats what CZ was bringing with it. If the graphics were changed too much, it simply wouldn't be the same game.

While even at 1600x1200 CS isn't anything completely amazing you have to weigh the fact that this game is also old as dirt in computer terms...

But this IS Counter-Strike, semi-decent graphics and all, people have continued to play, and whats more, NEW people continue to join in years after its initial release. Even when better looking games, especially in the FPS genre are out there.

I personally can't see CSX being a "big hit", why throw away your keyboard and mouse and grab a hefty controller and TRY to play reasonably. Seeing as how I have a strong bias against any FPS game on a console, I really don't want CSX, I already have CS on my comp and it plays fine.

RTCW and Rainbow Six are both hits on the Xbox, and each title saw a much earlier release on the PC.

What really gets me is that I hate RTCW for the xbox. Totally uninteresting to me.

Yeah, RtCW was a pretty good game but it wasn't anything revolutionizing for XBL. Like wckd, I can't see CSX being a big hit but it will probably be worth the cash. And plus, it won't have STEAM to frig things up and make us all hate our favorite game...

In the end IGN sucks and they charge you for their stuff.

some people may play it just for the environment.. don't you wonder how different the community for CSX is going to be when compared with what we have now? plus the fact that it'd be pretty much cheatfree..

The cheat free - better teamwork potential of it has me very tempted.
