    Women Get in the Game

Microsoft, a sponsor of the Cyber X Games where male and female players alike come to compete, has written an intriguing article on female gamers. It primarily deals with the CXG tournament and I, myself, have learned a fact or two on these once "novelty" gamers.
This year, Microsoft Windows XP joined as a title sponsor of the Cyber X Games to support competitive gaming on the Windows platform and increase female gamer opportunities at the championships. Women will take part in the regular gaming tournaments, and can also enter the first ever Windows XP Female Pro Gaming Quake 3 Competition and the Windows XP Female Counter-Strike Team Event.
It is great to see a recent trend of female players coming out, and showing that they are a legitimate group of gamers themselves. Although the article may seem a tad bit biased (it was written by Microsoft after all), the article remains a great read containing a wealth of details regardless. Check the article right now.

Lol indeed, the Linux community owns M$.

It's VERY good to see girls getting interested in online gaming. Problem is, that whenever I see a girl on a pub, everyone else starts acting sexist. And example was earlier today on a WON Team Fortress server. An 'uber l337' sniper by the name of clare was on drippy's 2fort only server and she was fragging like crazy. She soon admitted she was a girl when someone asked her and people were making sexist comments. For example, when I asked her how she managed to aim down at me so fast, someone said "because she doesn't have a penis in the way". 2 mins later, she got banned for haxing (that explains why I put the quotes on 'uber l337'). Good news that more girls are becoming gamers. Bad news that they are discovering hack sites.

Im all for female players, but why the hell do they need their own league? I can understand why the genders er seperated in normal sports because different physical boundaries, but on a computer? WHat the hell is that about?

how the hell is this a fair comparison: "women 18 years and older make up over a quarter (26 percent) of the overall gaming population — a bigger piece of the pie than boys aged 6 to 17, who represent 21 percent of all computer and video gamers"

How about we compare woman 6 to 17 or men 18+.

Also "Looking specifically at gamers on the Windows platform, women make up 41.9 percent of the total audience." Thats cause women don't want to get into the technical/programming aspect of Linux.

Its good that we see female gamers a lot more often, it breaks the age old stereotype of girls not being gamers. Lets hope they break the stereotype about gamers being homocial lunatics, too.

I've got nothing against women playing games like CS at all, hell, some of the best players I personally know are female, but I really don't get why people seem to feel the need to, in gaming, make a point of whether someone is male or female. It's a game. It shouldn't matter what sex someone is, you're behind a computer monitor for gods' sake, and there shouldn't be leagues/tournaments limited to just one sex, be that limited to female, or indeed limited to just males. It's nice that in most major leagues anyone can enter, but it does kinda piss me off when people make up gaming leagues for only a certain gender/age group etc. It verges on being patronizing.

Not really, tests have showed that the female brain has some differances then the male brain.

Girls are proven to have more precision in hand movements. There may be some other differences I forgot, but I don't see things major enough to make single-sex leagues.
