    CAL-i Season 9 Semifinals Results

The ninth season of CAL-i has come down to just two teams. Last night the semifinals were played and the matches were both very exciting. TSG and 3D, the number one and two seeds respectively finished on top last night and will move on to the final match on Thursday on de_dust2.

    #2 3D over #3 u5 - (16-13) (10-2 3D as T)(2-10 3D as CT)(4-1 3D in OT)

This was by far the stranger and more entertaining match of the two. Losing just two rounds in the first half, 3D had all of the momentum going their way. Miraculously, u5 was able to come up with some of their own magic and tie the match to send it into overtime with each team having won ten rounds on the terrorist side. But in overtime their luck ran out as Rambo dominated for 3D. In the five rounds of overtime he had seven frags to only one death. With performances like that it's not surprising that 3D squeaked away with the win.

    #1 TSG over #4 e7 - (13-5) (7-5 TSG as CT)(6-0 TSG as T)

After the end of the first half of this match it looked like it would be just as close as the other one. But TSG would not let that happen, winning every round they had on terrorist. Dominator can be thanked for TSG's success. He led everyone in frags on both sides on the map. His 12-1 score in just six rounds on the terrorist side should be remembered along side his 23 kill total in just 18 rounds. The Cinderella story of e7 ended last night but getting to the semifinals of CAL-i is nothing to be ashamed of. Their playoff victories against Rival and EG were both very well deserved and are worth mentioning. Good luck to both u5 and e7 next season hopefully their success will not end here.

This sets up a finals match to remember. After completely changing their starting lineup midseason, TSG went on to have the most points in the regular season. With this lineup, TSG has a chance to take the title of best USA team away from 3D. In their past four meetings, TSG has come out on top all four times, but this doesn't mean that 3D will just roll over and die. Stay tuned for naem's coverage on Thursday and good luck to both teams!

Dust2 is quite easily shifted to one team with the right tactics - it's a hard map to defend when the T's know what they're doing.

Of course the almighty creator of Dust2 would say something like that. But you're right, a terrorist team with the right tactics could definitely be the stronger of the two sides.

I mean, really, even if the CT's have a tactic, it has to be REALLY flexible - you can't afford not to be able to adapt on Dust 2 because a T storm is very hard to stop. The match shows this bug/feature of the map very well.

storm short a every time? Not in CAL-i bud, a 3-2 rush is most common in any level of play for this map. Of course there are different variations but an all-out rush of the catwalk is extremely rare because it is grenade ground. Most all out rushes without any splits are on the B bombside because it usually has less defenders. The only time I remember one of the top clans rushing catwalk all out was 3D in one of their matches during the pistol round.

On a different note, I do think that this will be one of the best finals though I think the GX vs zEx final last season had more potential, if not for the packeting of zEx. Thing about CAL-i is that it's all just bragging right really. I mean, there is no money involved and it's all online so there isn't all that much incentive except bragging rights.

Pretty common to see 2 in B, 3 at A or 3 at A, 1 in B, 1 middle for CT coverage at different levels. Really depends on your personel at what they can do well.
