Maybe they had nothing to update CS with at this moment in time.

Umm, I think i like threw my CD-key away after I thought I was done with it. Way to warn us in advance, VALVe. (I mean, further in advance).
      Translation:

I got banned from Steam as well as from WON... damn you Valve, you never told me my OGC would cause this...

So these wednesday updates are just going to turn into Steam fixes eh? Lame...how about adding stuff for CS, DOD or Half Life.
Funny. Update a game, and people scream about how Steam sucks and is buggy. Update Steam, and people whine that CS is going to be the same for *gasp* TWO WEEKS IN A ROW!!!! No matter what VALVe does, people will bitch. It's just how it goes.

wrong, its just limited by the developer command. developer 1 alows for higher fps. do better research next time.
Yes, and no one in their right mind would want to play > 100fps, there are far too many issues.

There is a difference between what Half-Life says and what the engine is running. 100fps tops, end of story.

This is a STEAM update not a Counter-Strike update. Wednesday updates are mostly meant for Steam, if you get game updates, it is a nice lil' bonus from our friends at VALVe

the half life engine can only produce 100fps. when it shows anything above that it is merely a theoretical value.
so what? why would any1 want fps higher than 100 anyway?

Buy a tnt2 or something for like $10 and at least youll get 50-60 at 1024x768
TNT2 (especially the M64 versions), are severely fillrate limited. that means any transparencies on the screen will slow it down to a snail's pace, and you can forget about 32-bit colour mode as well.

The tops is the refresh rate of the monitor, so it doesn't even matter what the engine says. For the record, I believe that if HL is capable of rendering 99 frames then it should certainly be able to render 300 frames. You're only seeing new frames whenever your monitor refreshes from the VRAM, though. So the whole discussion is silly.

Why would you even want to run higher than 60 frames a second. Its clear enough, why not just take the maxfps down to 60 and leave the rest of your computer resources free for the rest of the game. You could also multitask if you want, before they fixed it I was running my computer as a server and a client all at once =p

What about those of us who are using cd key generators. Will I get stuck out of CS because Im too damn cheap to buy an over priced 5 year old game. I think Valve should reduce the price of CS to 10 dollars and make a nicotine patch designed for half life and sell those for 50 bucks... They would be fucking rich. I've lost girlfriends over this game, skipped school, and I've had relitives die in my house and continue playing. I need profetional help.....

Noone has mentioned the fact that the human brain can only perceive up to a certain refresh rate. I can't remember what it is but it's definitely less than 300, or 100 even for that matter. You won't be able to notice any more smoothness above that amount, even if the hl engine actually did do more than 100fps and monitors had higher refresh rates.

Buy HL: Game of the Year Edition from CompUSA for $20 (http://www.compusa.com/products/product...88&pfp=SEARCH), then patch it to Steam with the legit CD key. With further looking, I'm guessing you could find it cheaper. I remember getting original HL for $10 at CompUSA when HL:GOTY first came out.
