when you use developer_1 cs may say 300 fps (if u put fps_max to 300) but u have to remember that no moniotor can physically refresh 300 times, unless you set ur refresh rate to 300, which would break it. Besides developer_1 messes up perfrormance if u done some researsh u would know this. Thats why even though it will be displayed as 300, nath said the hl engine cannot achieve above 100, which is true.

rofl, my bad. I assumed it would be released today (wednesday) like it would be weekly.
My guess? They're trying to stop pissing off league players... Even though the leagues are in off-season :)

So, is this in addition to the usual Wednesday release?

the half life engine can only produce 100fps. when it shows anything above that it is merely a theoretical value.

Would be nice if they start fixing HLTV: connecting to linked HLTV proxies using Steam browser, displaying HLTV banner, and fixing the HLTV (linux) memory leak

Gee, why not just switch to Opengl? It's fast, reliable, and the eyecandies are sweeter than lollipops!
For myself and many others, D3D runs faster, looks better and doesn't drop as much as OpenGl. In OpenGL at 640x480 res I struggle to get more then 20FPS, the graphics looks pretty much the same as Software mode, and the second anyone puts on nightvision, smoke or when there's more then 2-3 peopel on the screen at once, the whole thing drops to around 5FPS or crashes totally. in D3D I can get 80FPS at 1024x768 res, the graphics look totally smooth, and smoke etc makes almost no differance at all to my FPS.

Boomstick: Is opengl really too difficult?
Yes. I know people who's cards can't even show/run in OpenGL at all.

Funny how I run constant 99/100 fps which Opengl, graphics are sharper too. I just hate D3D. This goes with all games, like UT2k3
                  See above.

Don't blame VALVe because you were born stupid.

What graphics card do you have, to get just 20 fps under OpenGL at 640x480?

FYI, I have a 2+ year old GeForce3 Ti200 (now available on ebay between $10-$50) but I'm still able to get a nice, steady 80-100 fps under OpenGL at 1600x1200, in both CS and DoD.

To my knowledge that is true and if it is then I'm just saying I can get 300 FPS theoretically. :P

GeForce 4 and I used to get REALLY crappy OpenGL performance. I mean 15-20 fps at 800x600. Then I got rid of the shitty Microsoft drivers for all of my stuff (I did not realize that my woman ran Windows Update) and replaced them with the Nvidia drivers. Now I get 90-100 fps at 1024x768 in CS and DoD. Oh yeah - and RTCWET.

                          and look at me i'm a l33t sup4 h4x0r i can get 900fps using developer_1!!!1one!!1 /sarcasm

So these wednesday updates are just going to turn into Steam fixes eh? Lame...how about adding stuff for CS, DOD or Half Life.

They alternate it. Or at least that's what I've noticed. One week they update some game stuff, the next they update Steam itself.
