it only has to do with lan cafes who charge clients hourly to be able to play games... your buddies bringing their computers over to your house to lan doesnt count.

the 10 bucks per month, per box was in an official email from valve talking about a possibile price, not one that was finalized...



And going by the fact that they did not state a price on the above site, which is new, means to me that they probably have lowered it, or, are still testing out the water so to speak.

All in all, this is legal, and this is what should be done. Also, look how many games the LAN centers get to have, even Condition Zero. When Half-life 2 amd Team Fortress 2 come out, I bet they will get those through the steam license for 10/month, which sounds like a pretty good deal.

It's great for new games that havn't been released yet, but sucks that they already bought the game and, in a sense, have to buy it again. Ahh well. Suck for them.

I mentioned this in the other thread. Valves licensing is very fair and afforrdable compared to other developers. The previous news post had extreamly exagerated the final cost of games by talking it up with no numbers.



As to the person talking about charging just a dollar more. A dollar is often the difference between sucess and failure. People will only bear so much. You seldom just raise prices. Most LAN centers are not full consistently. The trick is balancing cost to time. Some peole would not pay 6 dollars for 2 hours, but they would pay 8 for three. You might have to give them a buck off, but they wouldnt have stayed and paid the 2 if you hadn't. It is a very annoying balancing act.



However that is moot because this should not effect pricing that much. It's cheap access to valves future content, so at least for a year or two it will be worth the cost easily.

i've never seen a cyber cafe that actually payed for counter-strike, and i doubt they'll start now.

The LAN center in my area charges $2 an hour :) owned by Koreans of course, I've never seen any LAN center that isn't owned other than asians.

After consideration and balancing a hypothetical budget, $10 per comp is really too steep. It should be $5 per comp, but /w a min number of comps required to qualify for that deal. Plus they have to work through all the bs of foreign currencies and pressures. Europe and America arnt the only places they play cs you know.

That would still give them over $100 per cafe per month, a considerable amount for a revenue that didn't exist for 5 years.

^^ patronising. microsoft also want to monopolise everything, take out any competition, and get into every niche market in existence. i mean cmon look at their track record.



first its software, then hardware (optical mouse, natural keyboard, xbox), now its mobile phones! where will it stop?
