I think this is a good move for VALVe. Think of all the costs they have now with steam. With the bandwidth they have to pay other companies for using their servers for steam. And Steam is shaping up real nice, and looks like its gonna make VALVe alot of money.



1.6 definitly owns 1.5 and I can not wait for the won servers to shut down so all the whiners leave CS for good, or I just get to ban them as they come onto my servers.



For some lan centers to cover this bill, prices may go up to get in. But they were allready cheap. I am not scared or mad over this.

I would be interested in knowing exactly how costly the overheads in running a LAN center are. To me this additional license fee to include a hugely popular game that doesn't even demand the most recent hardware isn't exactly number 1 irritant for them. I would have thought getting 20-40 computers up to top spec for BF1942 probably gives them more of a shit-fit.

How the fuck are VALVe ripping us off exactly? Go on. Tell us all, because we all want to know. The Cyber Cafe's have been profiting from VALVe software for years now, and all they did was pay a few measly £ to buy the software.



They charge a few £/hour, and CS is one of the main reasons why these lan centres are popular.



Oh and I wanted to say this: Halo? Jesus Christ, that one made me laugh. The day a console game becomes a main attraction of CPL is the day gaming dies.

There will be some LAN centres that will increase prices and tell all their customers that VALVe are to blame. What a shame. Those LAN centres deserve to go out of business.

It was an exaggeration of the "valve making us pay for thing's we've already bought" and don't give me the "but lan cafes have been profiting from valve software for years and all they did was pay £ once" as I just said that immediately after! I said I had mixed feelings about it and gave the 2 extreme opinions of the situation, so please read through fully next time.

It's been asked before and I'll ask it now: What was the price before for this? I'm pretty sure the cafe pricing isn't new. (the enforcement just is)

For a low monthly fee per licensed computer, your café gets access to all of Valve's games.



That means they get CS:CZ free when it comes out, yes?

Well, if you can correctly read posts, i stated that in a LAN center I payed a certain amount. So saying that "LAN center makes 5$/hour/computer" is a generalization. Your center charge 5$/hour, but on others they may charge less or more.

why are people tripping out about these licensing fees that valve has applied, $1800 isn't that much. I'm pretty sure your clients or customers don't mind if you charge like $1 more to cover the costs. Besides if you opened 5 days a week, you would need to make about $6.70 to cover the costs of CS and if you opened 7 days a week you would need to make $4.93 to cover the costs. Valve is smart enough not to charge fees for tourney liscense. So if you want to do valve over, hold tourneys everyday (not sure what you need to get a tourney lisence, so this is just an idea)! I know you guys have other feese to pay and stuff, but think about it, if you were in Valve's shoes and you saw how some people were making so much money off of CS through cyber cafes and LAN centers, wouldn't you want a chunk of the profit?
