I swear I just saw a newsbit outside my window... and I swear it grinned at me... ugly lil bastards.

Btw, as an alternative to shotguns, flamethrowers have proven to be very effective against newsbits and, especially, against their nests. But be careful when engaging them indoors.

Prepare for the day when the evil newsbit overlord will descend on this world!

I was just curious.. are the Nvidia drivers compatible with 98se or only xp/2k?
The Forceware drivers are only for 2000/XP. Earlier OS's are supported by the older 45.23 release. Don't know if Nivida plans to update for 95/98/me, but I would guess not.

I like both brands, ATi currently for their superior speed/features, and nVidia's constantly superior compatibility and driver stability. One would hope that, should HL2 be delayed as long as it was speculated, that nVidia will have a fully DX9 compatible card out.
Good speculation. Nividia is not about to commit commerical suicide by not being fully compatible with DX9 or fully competitive with ATI.

On a related matter HL2 is still supposedly coming out with the 9800 bundle in November right? Versus the statement from Vivendi suspending it to next year. Just wondering if there's an update....

It wouldn't be surprising if they were moving towards the WDM drivers only and dropping the old 9x support from new drivers. Honestly, what percentage of their user base is using Windows 98 on their machine that has a FX5950 card? Admittedly 98 tends to be faster than the newer operating systems, but it just isn't used a lot due to lack of stability. I'd rather see them focus their efforts on adding new features and speed increases than trying to keep antiquated support going.

There never was an official word from VALVe on how long the delay would be. My guess is that they'll let the Vivendi guy's words stand, as it probably gives them plenty of time for the necessary work, and when they finish (even if it's early, and one would hope in time for the holidays, though it's very questionable) go ahead and release it "early" from the speculation of April 2004.

Honestly, though, I think they'd be wiser to do that than to announce a sooner release date, and find out as it approaches that they'll have to delay it again. Better to set a distant date and surprise people (in a good way) with a sooner release, imho.

you should only update drivers if your current ones are giving u problems and that you are CERTAIN updating them will solve those probs, otherwise best to leave them if everything is stable.

I think they only show up if you're using Internet Explorer, because the only time I've ever seen one of those Gamespy pop-ups is when I loaded up CSN with IE once, most of the time I use Netscape and I never see them then, but if I use IE it's pop-up city.

I also get a ton of "ADWARE ALERTS" from Spybot Search and Destroy when I view this site. =\

Thank god it blocks them, but ad/spy ware is not cool

Turn off the stuff you don't need and try putting the settings toward performance and not detail. Especially vsync.
