    Mmm, NewsBits

They were splattered all over the wall, their red pasty remains seeping into every crevice. Their foul odor could be detected from miles away. Luckily, these gory artifacts were not that of Vince's brain, but rather the maimed bodies of the NewsBits. Vince had managed to hold off the NewsBits - at least for a while - but it seemed that their leader would stop at nothing to keep the NewsBits from coming for him.
    • indygamers is giving away a plethora of hardware, including an ati radeon 9800 video card. the drawings will fall on the friday after thanksgiving, and the every following friday until the week before christmas. check it out!

    • the cpl has a top-of-the-line computer up for grabs, valued at $3,000, for a randomly selected participant of this winter's cpl. register before november 3 if you want to be entered in the drawing.

    • nvidia has released a new line of drivers, forceware, for their video cards. they are supposed to improve performance for directx 9.0 games, so all of you disappointed at nvidia's poor benchmarks in hl2 can breathe a sigh of relief.

    • don't have enough cash to buy cs for xbox? all hope is not lost, as xbox.com understands your plight. they're giving away a pack of six games, including cs, to ten lucky gamers.
The thoughts of his dead colleague lingered. Why hadn't the NewsBits taken himself instead? It didn't matter, Vince ultimately decided, because he was going to find those responsible and bring them to justice. Wielding his trusty Desert Eagle .50AE, he planned on killing the miscreants with a vengeance.

I have no plans of getting a new card for more than a year so my GF4 has to do.

No amount of driver tweaks will allow nvidia owners to sigh relief over their HL2 benchmarks... And yes, I have always owned nvidia products, since the first TNT card. But I doubt my next card will be nvidia, once HL2 comes out.

Last time I checked, the headline contained "NewsBits" and there was no information remotely concerning Steam in the post. Thanks.

This doesn't really have anything to do with the news, but it's not like there's a serious discussion going on here...

Are there any plans for removing pre 1.6 skins from the archive? Not now, of course, 1.5 is still up. But I mean, once WON goes down? Or will you just mark which ones are 1.6 (seems a hassle to me).

Cuz if you plan to take them down, you should make a post about getting them while you can, or something...or perhaps post a method on how to convert them to 1.6...?

I don't even use custom skins, so it doesn't bother me, just suggesting.

Torched started it off, but any way you look at it, it's nothing like Max Payne. Example.
They were splattered all over the wall, their red pasty remains seeping into every crevice. Their foul odor could be detected from miles away.
If it was Max Payne, it would be something like this:
They were splattered all over the wall like a pasta dish in an Italian mob hit where the waitress knew too much, their red pasty remains seeping into every crevice like men who have nowhere to run except into the tunnels of their own cold, lonely minds. Their foul odor crept up like New York on a hot day and gushed in like a tidal wave from the depths of hell to my lifeless senses miles away.
Notice the difference? Now consider this quote:
(...) but it seemed that their leader would stop at nothing to keep the NewsBits from coming for him.
Max Payne had editors, so the story didn't have such horrible abuse of the English language, causing sentences to mean something opposite of what was intended. As a final note as to the presentation (which still gets full marks regardless of any errors), a shotgun is the weapon of choice when engaging newsbits, as newsbits aren't beefy enough to really need the punch of the .50AE round, and the multiple pellets are much better for engaging large groups of newsbits. :P

I like both brands, ATi currently for their superior speed/features, and nVidia's constantly superior compatibility and driver stability. One would hope that, should HL2 be delayed as long as it was speculated, that nVidia will have a fully DX9 compatible card out. Either way, though, you tweak the options slightly down from absolute full details, and top of the line cards from either maker run just fine.
