Steam Update Recalled

Wow, I switched on 1.5 yesterday just for the hell of it (yes I went to all the trouble to re-install it weeks ago) and it was so smooth and fast...no waiting for anything....click, click, click, and 99fps...no problem...always. No fidgity screen. No "...let's see... where do I set this parameter " stuff. This 1.6 "hotrod" ain't gonna win any races my brothers.

Reading this whole comments section I've realised something quite humorous.



When asked whether or not you were addicted to games/CS many of you who have commented here would probably say no. But judging by most of these "I hate valve" "You've taken CS from me boo hoo" style comments, you are either reliant/addicted to CS, or you are very sad.(especially when you post completely in Caps)



Next time Steam doesn't work, open your curtains, look outside, read a book, do something with your friends or do something constructive.



Don't come on here and cry because that just speaks volumes about the person you are.



And if you flame me for this comment then you really do need a life.

For starters Counter-strike is a hobby or past time for many, just because you get angry over something doesnt mean it effects you 24/7. In reference just because I get angry at waiting times at the bar doesnt mean Im an alcoholic.



Steam is a useless pile of crap, nice idea but now its just froze - its not crunching my HD or downloading, its just froze - so instead of playing Counter-strike Im being blocked by a program doing nothing, great.

Old custom models doesn't work that well in 1.6, unless you like to see people with shields flapping their arms to fly, or when you shoot someone and he dies standed as if in lag mode...

Not that it isn't bad, its actually quite funny to watch and play.

But the idea of reworking all the old custom models to make it work for 1.6 is less than attractive...

During this whole 'new update oh shit nevermind' fiasco I was asleep, so I missed most of the action. But, it still boggles the mind that almost everyone that posts has something negative to say about Vavle. If you hate Valve so much and you are sick and tired of messing with Steam and Counter-Strike, why don't you just..Stop playing? Or wait, let me guess, 'I just want to play Counter-Strike!' right? So play 1.5, WON is still up, hell I even use 1.5 to play with bots when my cable goes out. Or you could think about it like this; What if Valve didn't care about Steam and Counter-Strike? What if they didn't TRY to fix the mistakes they made? They could tell us about an update and then not give any official news for two years like some other games (D2, especially). All I am -really- trying to say here, is, it's ok to be mad and frustrated that you can't play, but you all (well, not ALL of you, just most of you) act as if you have no LIFE outside of Counter-Strike and so you feel the need to come onto CSN and post 'VALVE SUCKS I'M GOING BACK TO 1.5' and then the next time Valve messes up you come back and say 'STEAM SUCKS I'M GOING BACK TO 1.5' and then Steam has an update that messes everything up and you come and say 'COUNTER-STRIKE SUCKS I'M GOING TO PLAY HALO/RED FACTION 2/BF1942/MAX PAYNE 2/WHATEVER GAME'. So? Go play it, and shut the fuck up already, christ.

i just hate the whole concept of fannying about waiting for 5 mins for steam to load and find servers and connect to get on CS. specially if im going into a scrim :/

Thatr update really fucked up my steam account. i have to reinstall cs cause it somehow deleted my steam apps. i really like steam and all, but they really need to make sure what they do is going to work.

Just a notice that the recall WILL make you re-download stuff. I recommend going back to the original steam + cs installer and going from there, as you'll be downloading different files than those just re-downloading the entire thing, and therefore might get yourself a better content server to download from.



Or ask to borrow someone else's *.gcf files.

i am waiting for a stable steam to switch the server over to 1.6. it sucks ass in it's current state.

Dude...I'm allowed to be pissed. These are games that I actually paid money for and now I cannot play because of this. Seems to me that they are finally getting around to the beta test. It speaks volumes about who I am because I expect to be able to use something I paid for. Gee, why would someone want that? Dipshit.



I play CS, DOD, and plenty of other games, but not 24/7. At around 8-9 in the evening I'd like to be able to relax and play a few rounds of any HL mod, but last night I watched updates go, restart, go to 40%, restart, blah blah blah. Finally it was all done - I played one round and it crashed. Then it starts to update again, so I checked the steam website - recalled update. UGH! I let the update download, meanwhile all of the mods are updating again - so I let it run all night hoping that it would be done in the morning and (DSL mind you) by 6:00AM it had crashed of course.



Now, I'm just hoping that when I get home from work today I might actually be able to play one of those games at some point. Yea - quality product - you better believe I'll bitch about it.



So yes I'll take the time to thank VAVLe for making Steam free, so it can freely FUCK UP games that I've paid for.

Silence. It doesn't matter if I have the CD's douche bag, what matters is that the system that most of these games are being played on now is inaccessible to some, and one huge problem for the rest - for a small minority it works great. I still play on WON when Steam is down, but the real question is "Why should I have to?" Why are we being forced to eat this giant pile of steaming shit. Halfway through the last update my computer rebooted for no reason!
