Leagues Turn to 1.6

The Cyberathlete Amateur League and the United Gaming Syndicate Counter-Strike divisions will be switching over to CS 1.6 play this week (starting tonight). Rosters will be locked later in the evening, so if you are a part of either league you will need to update your WONID with your SteamID (see the bottom of this page for SteamID info).



I've played in some scrimmages with CS 1.6, and the game actually hasn't changed too much due to the new weaponry. Public servers are a different matter, but not many clans seem willing to use the shield (and leave one man without a real weapon in the process). Who knows how it will turn out once real competition begins, especially in the upper levels of CAL play. CAL-i matches will be held Monday and Thursday night.

Like I predicted, the shield will hardly be used in clanwars.. Nobody will pick a (I cannot shoot with this) shield over a M4 or AWP.. Yet it amazes me to see how many people keep complaining/whining about it being unfair etc, like fair games happen alot on publics (not!).. I mostly just play clanwars anyway, so I don't care..

Well it was inevitable, however i am a bit skeptical as to how the cts have any chance now. It was hard nough to have control over the money system as a ct, especially on dust 2. Now that we have a galil in the mix for $2100, the cts will have a hell of a time getting colts, let alone awps, and keeping them. And dont tell me the famas balances that, the FAMAS is a piece of crap; not to mention it looks like a freaking toy. Another thing; if a T team goes on a glock rush, tha is nothing but glocks, they will be able to afford a galil the second round even if they lose. Also they can afford them the 3rd round if they lose a normal pistol round.



Well maybe this will get rid of the money whoring, I don't know. But isn't money what makes CS different from other games and these new guns effectively render the money system useless? I can see maps like dust2 become even more t sided.



Whatever the case, good luck cal ang ugs, I cant wait to see what this next season has in store for us.

Is it just me or are there not a whole lot of people playing 1.6? I mean sure theres a bunch, but not even half of the public servers.. shoot, not even 2/3 of the public servers haev a player in them. People still playin 1.5?

I've played a 1.6 scrim and it was actually a lot of fun. The game felt balanced, and the new guns weren't an annoyance, but more of an alternative. Good stuff.

CS 1.6 is better than 1.5 in every way. my only beef with it is that now i get shitty FPS in 1.6 in comparison to the 100 constant i had in 1.5

In a late announcement CAL has now officially banned the riot-shield from all league play effective immediately. It's purpose for being banned is that it still finds that the shield itself has multiple bugs which will be able to result in unfair league play. This late announcement comes as a possible disturbance for a few CAL-main Atlantic teams who's matches may already be underway. I've been scrimming 1.6 a ton lately and I love it. My only hope is that Valve never fixes the shield so it remains banned in CAL.
