In the first matches of the new version of Counter-Strike, 1.6, there were a few surprising upsets, but most matches played out as expected. Thursday will mark the midpoint of the season and the teams are beginning to sort out into their respective calibers. Playoff hopes of teams like hs, Agent, and BiO have all but faded, as they will need to win virtually all of their matches to qualify.[break="For full commentary click here"]3D over e7 - (14-10) (5-7 3D as CT)(9-3 3D as T)
The match of the night proved to be a close one. Though e7 was unable to end 3D's winning streak they did prove to some doubters that they can still be considered one of the top CAL-i teams. Their record is a bit of a disappointment at 3-3, but they still do hold the #2 spot of the Delta Division.
rdw over zEx - (13-11)(4-8 RDW as CT)(9-3 RDW as T)
zEx has lost three matches this season, but two of them have been decided by two rounds each. After taking 3D to overtime with the new lineup, many people had expected zEx to continue their dominance of the Omega Division. But with losses to DeadZone, and now rdw they are just one match about .500. This was an important win for rdw as they need all the points they can get to have a chance in the Gamma Division.
shock over TSG - (15-9) (5-7 shock as CT)(10-2 shock as T)
Shock pulled off a huge upset in this match. Most people expected the pumped up TSG to win this match by quiet a landslide, but shock proved everyone wrong. They are now 5-1-1 and lead the Gamma Division by one point over TSG and TEC. This is the closest race of all of the divisions and shock will need to pull off more huge wins like this to hold on to their lead.
TEC over GB - (14-10) (9-3 TEC as CT)(5-7 TEC as T)
Taking advantage of the two teams above them in the Gamma Division having to play each other, TEC picked up the two points against a mediocre GB squad. GB continues to hang in the middle of the pack but are yet to pull off a major upset win against a top echelon team. They face u5 next and will need to bring their best game to the table if they expect even a close match.
u5 over TAU - (20-4) (8-4 u5 as T)(12-0 u5 as CT, TAU left)
The golden boys of CAL-m completely obliterated TAU in this one. Though TAU left after a few rounds on the ct side, this is still another big win by u5. They are still undefeated and are now on top of the Omega Division. With zEx looking weaker each week, u5 is the new favorite to win this one. u5 have silenced their critics as they seem unstoppable even in the top of CAL.
3DO vs ICE - Rescheduled
Eminence over mV - (15-9) (10-2 e as CT)(5-7 e as T)
Another impressive match by the Eminence squad included winning 10 out of 12 rounds on the more challenging ct side of the map. They are still in the race for the Gamma Division even though there are three teams ahead of them. The difference between these four teams is just two points and with nine matches to play this division is still up for grabs.
hs over MurK - (13-0 Forfeit Win)
hs picked up their first and possibly only win of the season. Unfortunately, this was one of the three forfeited matches of the night. MurK has forfeited twice this season and does not seem to be too focused on CAL play due to WCG Iceland. MurK will face 3D next so don't expect their luck to change at least until next week.
xeno over Deadzone - (15-9) (6-6 xeno as CT)(9-3 xeno as T)
It was not meant to be for DZ to upset another team this week. Their clobbering of zEx two matches ago turned some heads, but they have not backed it up since then. Their record has fallen to 2-5 but they can look forward to playing BiO, one of the worst teams this season, on Thursday.
BiO over Agent - (16-8) (6-6 BiO as T)(10-2 BiO as CT)
Finally! BiO won a match! It took them seven tries but they have found a team that they can beat. Both teams are a lowly 1-6 now and don't look like much competition for the rest of the league. BiO and hs were the last winless teams so it's nice to see both of them put a one in their win columns last night.
Legends over Gamewyze - (13-0 Forfeit Win)
Another one of the forfeits. Not much to say about this, but LgD has earned 13 rounds here, and that's better than nothing.
Rival over EG - (13-0 Forfeit Win)
In a big disappointment, Rival and EG did not get to face off for the rights to Theta Division. EG forfeited this match and now sits in 2nd place while Rival improved their record to 6-1.
Cc over WEW - (19-5) (9-3 Cc as T)(10-2 Cc as CT)
Cc brought their best game to the table in this match. Dominating on both sides of the map, Cc took this one by 14 rounds. They are now tied with WEW at the bottom end of the Theta division. Neither team has much of a chance at making the playoffs this season.
LaR over Nerve- (15-9)(11-1 LaR as T)(4-8 LaR as CT)
An amazing t side by LaR really put nerve on the ropes after the first half and they were unable to recover. Nerve put up a good fight, but in the end, LaR's t-side domination was all they needed to clinch this win.
TSO over SYB - (15-9) (6-6 TSO as CT)(9-3 TSO as T SYB left)
In what could be called an upset, TSO brought their record up to 2-5 with a win against SYB. TSO kept pace with the likes of Cc and WEW. SYB will face a very competitive Rival team next. SYB apparently had ping trouble which was not resolved (hence them refusing to play it out), that may have lead to their loss.
