In case you are wondering why you cannot log into Steam, it is because the Steam Network is down. Greg Coomer at VALVe has posted a news article about this:

The Steam network is down right now. We're working on a fix and should have everything working again shortly. Sorry for the inconvenience.

I will update this post when the Steam Network is back online.

do they mean a fix asin something that is going to update my steam client (possibly the one they mentioned here '...will be fixed with a Steam update this week') or a fix that we arnt really going to notice (network infrastructure etc.) ??
