I wonder how quick Valve is gonna serious nasty bug which allows every player to either accidently or on purpose crash a CS 1.6 server and bringing it down for minutes.

I am actually starting to like 1.6 alot, after all my complaining, i like it, i like the change from the same old boring crap. I chose 1.6 over 1.5 now. The changes is what CS needed, the players who have been playing for more than 3 years, such as myself, would find the same old stuff over and over tedious. Now theres another game to be best at, to conquer. The same great game, new look and feel. If only valve could have sorted the steam transition to be smoother then i would have fully approved of the switch over. But with that behind me I'm looking forward to some great games of cs with 1.6, i appreciate every change in the cs aspect, but steam still needs a bit more work. Information on exactly what it's doing would be nice, i don't just mean the monitor, i mean all those times when its stuck on prepare to play, and when connecting to the servers. Faster opening and closing times are needed too. I think valve are great for doing all this work for free for us, and I'm sorry that the have to face all this complaining shit for there hard work. I myself was complaining, but it was purely out of frustration.

1.6 is not that bad, once you get it working... I know there were many shield bugs that have been fixed - like no fall damage, etc...

Here's an easy way to kill someone with a shield so peeps can stop bitchin' about it being unfair.

If you are faced with a shield in a small room and he's just sitting in a corner letting you unload on him - aim right where his head will be when he moves the shield. Fire a couple rounds a fake a reload - hit 'r' then 'q' 'q', this brings your gun back up and BLAM - he moves the shield to kill you while reloading, except you shoot him right in the FACE. Try it - it's fun.

I'm waiting for the first transparent shield models to come out - that will make it a lot more fun...

I have to say, I think steam is pretty gay, I have CS installed, and when I want to play CS, it tells me it has to install it, then it freezes, anyone know what's going on?

                    The Steam Cache...

If I want to copy my Steam Cache files to disk, so I can give them to a friend who doesn't have the time to wait at Fileplanet, which folders are necessary for it to work on his computer? Should the folder with my email address not be copied?

                    Thanks!

Oh, and CS and Steam are working fantastic for me. Just a little slow on the initial download, but all is well now. 1.6 is so much nicer and user friendly when compared to the archaic 1.5.

Steam was a great idea, initially. The whole thing works out in theory, yet practically, there is not enough bandwidth to serve the entire Half-Life community. No matter how much servers you have to serve the community, there will be a jam, and people are bound to complain how Steam sucks.

Maybe you should see how Steam used to rock when it was an open Beta, back then things were much better, because people did not rush blindly to try out something that they thought were new. Everyone just jumps on the bandwagon. Since Steam is now out, I must get it. This mentality has caused delay after delay. And when the people over at VALVe try to solve things, they get spammed over email and at the forums.

Perhaps we should try to look at what good side Steam has, and at the same time encouraging the team over at VALVe. Nothing is perfect, and I'm sure Steam would turn out to be a great product over time.

You should burn the 400 mb (approx) installation file.

They are forcing us to use it. 1.6 is official and that is what every league is switching to. So by making 1.6 official now in this steam release they have forced us all to download it. Personaly.. if 1.6 was still beta I would be glad.. cuz I wouldnt be using this pile of steaming shit.

start searching for steaminstall.exe on kazaa - I'm sure several peeps will have the 400meg file on there. I have it available in my shared folder. CS actually works when you install the large version, as opposed to downloading the cache from Steam servers.
