I wonder who'll be doing the port? I saw the Half-Life port that Gearbox did (back when it was still in testing) and it was pretty good. I'd be surprised if it was an in-house job, knowing how crazy the PS2 architecture is compared to bog standard x86 stuff. It would need a lot of work.



That said, the PS2 has a huge audience who would certainly appreciate it. In my opinion, the more people that get to play HL2, the better.

I think it's just because of the graphical limitations of the aged hardware. Xbox and Gamecube would be better choices, just because HL2 would look how its supposed to look.
