but if you in the future if you want to play cs 1.6 or any mods, you will be oblige to use steam
Do you realize how little that has to do with the point he was trying to make. The point was that CS 1.6 is not the same as Steam. CS 1.6 != Steam. Do understand? Take a step back and just try to comprehend how stupid your comment was.. I am literally shitting bricks from it, and let me tell ya: It hurts.

Sorry if that might seem a bit rash, but I mean my mind just locked up when I read that sentence.. It made absolutely no sense, my mind couldn't rationalize why you would say something that.. that.. God, I feel a lockup coming on again.

IS there any news on 56k compatibility - no mention of such subject!

That said i do get ADSL in less than 2 weeks

PS U can play 1.6 without STEAM, apparently, but VALVe will only broadcast CS updates (1.7 onwards if it is created, since HL2 comes out VERY soon thus CS2) on STEAM.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but thats what I'm led to believe

Yeah, I presume 56k and all that will still be okay to use? Cause BT arsed up the stuff around here so we can't have anything bar 56k, untill July next year, which they say they'll have it sorted by..... and if steam or CS 1.6 or whatever doesn't work with 56k, then I'm buggered.

Well dipshits, Valve is a fucking joke, and they've managed to somehow ruin the best MP game out there with each upcoming update.
Wow, one of the people who said "I'm going to quit" after every update.... didn't quit.
I can't wait to see the day when a new game comes out and completely destroys the MORONS working behind the computers @ valve. CS has been on its downfall since after the release of 1.3.
Many new games have come out and taken large chunks out of CS's user base, like BF. However, these games make almost no difference. The only thing that could kill CS would be HL2 sucking too much, preventing CS2 from ever coming out.

edit: I forgot to add that if HL2 turns out badly, valve won't have enough money to continue work on CS. Also, they aren't MORONS.
You can reply with all the ' you suck go play another game' rhetoric all you want; the people bitching about steam/vavle are the only ones who aren't brainwashed in thinking valve is actually good.
If you mind CS being outdated and not looking as good as new games, 'you suck go play another game.'

In summary, CS is old and will hopefully be abandoned when HL2 and then (hopefully) CS2 comes out. In the meantime, stop bashing valve: They are working on HL2, and probably shouldn't be updating a decade old game at all.

This is just becoming too much.

So from what I understand, if I want to play HL, at all, any mod, ever, I must get steam?

I've kept up with Steams progress, and frankly its a pain in the arse. Its a good idea, but I don't think they are ready for the public, and they are dragging HL2, CS:CZ, and CS1.6 down with them. And personally, I like the fact that HL/CS is so simple to use. You dl a patch, click install and go with it. Will steam be that simple to use? just boot up HL and under the play online button have a Steam Update button? or will you have to load steam, search, dl, install, start HL and repeat untill your uptodate. I think that they should make it super simple for people, like Norton 2003's live update.

As for buying things through Steam, what happens if I buy HL2 and CS:CZ on-line and then get SoBig or something and have to format my harddrive? ( I personally will burn a CD for backup, but what if eh? ) would you have to buy it again, or will they keep some way of keeping track who got what, and how would they keep that from benig hacked/explotied so people get free copies of things?

And I know you can still get HL2 in stores, I've had mine preordered forever now, but how far are they going to take this? I really enjoy the simple act of going out, finding a game, buying with cash, then opening it up for that new game smell.

I'm for them making the game better, and making updates easier toget. But I also feel like they are kind of putting strings on everything too... They are trying to control the bushfire HLonline has become. In my view, one of the best things about HL is that its open, anyone can buy it and play, under any name, and they can change that name whenever they want. Anyone can get a server, make a mod, try something new. But with this 'control' they are creating through Steam, those things will eventually become harder and harder, until HL becomes more of an MMORPG. It wouldn't surprise me if in the near future Valve, or some other jackass who has too much power and too many ideas, decides to add a monthly fee to Steam so the only way to play HL will be to dish out 9.99$ a month. It's happend to a lot of other games, I can't say if it will happen to HL, but it could.

This entire thing just kinda gives off the 'wolf in sheepskin' vibe. I like it now.. but I have a feeling later down the road, its going to bite us all right in the arse.

but thats just my two cents :P

I invite you to create your own game that rivals the quality of HL/CS.

Buying programs over Steam sounds very simple to me, I pay them the money and now I own a copy of that program and access to as many updates as Valve feels like releasing for it. Steam just scans my hard drive to see what version of the program I'm running(version 1.1.1.0. for instance)and if I'm not at the newest version it asks if I want to auto-update, if I had to wipe my hard drive for maintenance or something or if a helpful virus did it for me(Oh yay), after I finished cleaning up the mess and reinstalled Steam then Steam would detect the current version of the program I own to be at "Not installed" and would then ask me if I want it to be installed on my hard drive because according to the file attached to my Steam I.D. I own that program and I am allowed to download it over Steam as many times as I need to.
