Equalizer! wrote..Why? Just because I liked the older versions of CS? I started at Beta 5.0 in January 2000. Back then it was great stuff. Now I play CS maybe once or twice a month. You probably play like every day or so, so why don't you get a life.
Silent Assasin, get a life now plz.
Oh with moving hostages, there were a few things that people used to do which was the reason why they disabled that feature.
1.) Hostage Jumping. Get on a hostage's head and go very high up in the air, of course there was a trick to doing it, but it was very easy to learn, hell I even made a script that allowed me to do it with ease. In maps like Italy you used to be able to sky walk. In assault you could get on the box that overlooks the back door. That big huge one. In militia you could get on cliffs that you normally can't get on. It was good fun. Also in Militia, one of the most used tactics by terrorists was taking all of the hostages and putting them in front of the door in the garage. This would make it so that CTs couldn't get in without being smart. The CTs would have to press use on the hosties to get them to move towards them or just back into the door and have it open backwards, but since many people didn't know this they would kill the hostages. All the loud noice that was caused by the CTs trying to open the door alerted the terrorists inside the garage. That was a very great camping spot that was destroyed by removing that feature, because now all you have to do is rescue the two hostages and then kill the other two inside and you win. Before both were inside the room and you'd have to kill the guys inside before you could rescue the hostage. If they could have made it so that hostages move when they get pushed by doors and so that you can't hostage jump anymore, moving hostages would still be an important key in CS. Also, don't bash Terrorist camping in CS maps because that's what they are supposed to do! Prevent the CTs from taking the hostages, but yet a lot of people like to play deathmatch, so what can I do...
2.) Snipers with crosshairs. Way back when, it still was tough to hit someone while moving with a scout or an AWP with the crosshair because they were quite unaccurate, even though people still managed to hit that menacing knifer with the awp unscoped every now and then. Now it's very easy even if you don't have the crosshair to hit a target without zooming because it hits directly in the center which is quite dumb, IMO anyway, since there is no account for the fact that you are aiming blindly. You'll never see a real sniper holding his gun and shooting without looking through the scope. The odds of him hitting the target are very slim, unless that target is very close, yet I can manage to do it all the time.
3.) IDK you have to play the older versions to realize how fun they were, hell even Gooseman said it was one of his favorite versions (5.2). Whether this really is from Gooseman or not, but I doubt the people who wrote this would bs...
"Hello Mr. Le
I have a question concerning movie making in the early betas of your mod CS. I'm not sure if you will be able to help me but maybe point me to someone who can? To get to my question I kind of have to tell you a story. Here goes. I started playing CS a few months after the full release and continued playing it until now. I became interested in the early betas when some guys started talking about how cool the p90 was and how fast the game speed was. I did a little research and came up with this http://csrelic.edgegaming.com/ a site dedicated to beta 5.2. I got involved with the group and started playing 5.2 with the guys from the site. We do not have very many players and its hard to advertise so we came up with the idea of having a beta 5.2 movie. We started recording demos and such. Now we get to the problem. I'm fine with changing demos in 1.5 to *.avis but its a lot different in 5.2. First there is no command to convert directly to bmp files from the demos. When you type "startmovie filename" in console instead of creating bmp files it creats a large demo file. You then put this demo file into a program called mkmovie.exe. This creats the bmps for you. The problem is that the movies come out very jumpy. I belive the reason for this is that I was not using the "timedemo filename" command which caches the demo. That would explain why the movie was jumpy. Now when I use the "timedemo" command the demo runs but all its shows is a black screen. I'm really stuck on this and I've been trying to get it working for a while now. If you know anyone who worked on old beta movies or if you yourself know what the problem is drop me a line. I'm sure your very busy so I understand if you don't get to me for a while. Thanks for your time."
Gooseman:
"unfortunately there's no fix for this.. CS Beta 5.2 was made for a very early version of Half-Life.. before it had all the funky bells and whistles. The newest version of HalfLife engine (which CS 1.5 is optimized on) fixes all those demo bugs that we had in the earlier version.... In short, the only way i can fix those demo bugs is to debug beta 5.2 which is impossible since i dont have the source code anymore
sorry to break it to you like that.. and im glad u like beta 5.2 .. it was one of my faves too :)I sooo miss the flinching animations i did for that.. god i love making people dance .."
Oh and then again, all you need to play beta 5.2 is this
http://www.edgefiles.com/files/756.html
it will downgrade your CS 1.5 while keeping your CS 1.5 in tact and install Beta 5.2 with it in a seperate directory of your choise. All together the whole process takes up 430 megs or so on your HDD. The downgrader is 32.7 MB to download.

T|2i|34L wrote..LOL, yeah that was fun, Militia was the best for that. Some people put them in that mini sauna type thing, some put them in the sewers, some in the bathroom, some in the garage, they were everywhere, it was great.
You could totally be a whore with the hosties pre-1.4. Back when hostie jumping and hiding the hosties in 4 really far away places was a bastard of a strat. CT's wouldn't know where to look, timers would run out while they searched the whole map. As a t you could use the hosties to get up on top of the large crates in cs_assault and then also to block the back door with them. It was awesome.
That was also before the hoes started showing up on the CT radar, so they could have been anywhere. It was fun watching them search everywhere.
its the way i play cs today:) not as fun tho
