    Pollerific!

It's rapid-fire poll week at CSN! Actually, I was on vacation and rizzuh felt the need to update the poll randomly two days ago. Sometimes he just gets in those frothy moods! So, what is your opinion on the Riot Shield? Rizzuh and I were talking about it yesterday and I was wondering what the esports community thought about it.

Hey, I voted for developer switches!! Delays happen with every game, so I'm not sure that will necessarily hurt it the most. Just because something is delayed doesn't make it bad. On the other hand, too many cooks spoil the broth, and CS:CZ has seen more cooks than rizzuh's family at a buffet.

I love the new calendar. I enjoy drawing comics myself, so Threeboy's stuff appeals to me a bunch. Check it out!

I feel the shield is totally detrimental to gameplay. There's no 'counter' to it, besides grenades. If you meet two shield users, then you are basically dead - all they have to do is get on opposite sides of you, and when you're not looking at one of the shielders, they come out from their little hiding shell and fire at you. That's not even close to fair gameplay.

If I remember correctly, if they position themselves so that the shield is not deployed (in front of them) but the shield is perpendicular to you, then you can't hit them. All a shield user has to do, then, is just snap their mouse in your direction, fire, and snap their mouse back so the shield is protecting them. If you have 60 ping you wouldn't stand a chance.

That's not even mentioning the shield glitches. While I'm reasonably sure they'll be patched when 1.6 comes out of beta, the glitches completely ruin the game right now. Imagine you're in the middle of the war armed with a submachine gun, and you get charged by a fucking tank that moves as fast, or faster, than you. You're dead.

Yea to me the shield seems like a big fucking gimmick and doesn't really fit in to the more arcade like action that is CS 1.5. Even with the slowed down gameplay and such in the later versions this isn't rouge spear and the shield doesn't serve any purpose in counter-strike other than a marketing tool for adding a cool looking shot of it on the CS:CZ box to push a few extra impulse buyers in to making a couple sales. At least when we see nerfs and drastic game play changes to weapons and player movement it effects both teams, this is a big boost to the CT eco rounds and I have a feeling it will take a huge nerf before the final version is out putting it on par with the elites and other gimmick weapons that some how found their way in to the game. But then again no one really has any experience with league play and CS 1.6 so it's a toss up.

I should go fuck around on a 1.6 pub with the shield and see just how effective it is, cause my only real experience with it is with bots and that's not a very good basis for judgment but it does seem plenty powerful to me.

The shield is a nice addition, but definitely needs changing. My suggestions:

        - Make Sniper Rifle fire partially go through the shield. No one hit kills, but it should do some damage at least.

        - More Expensive.

        - Make the player even more exposed when firing the pistol. Currently they're still reasonably well protected.

        - Slow the player down more when the shield is "armed".

The Sniper Rifle suggestion may already be there, but i can't say i've noticed it to be the case. Could be wrong on that one though.

As it stands, a team of CTs rushing, all with shields, is pretty devastating, unless all the T team is together, armed with grenades. This rarely happens on public servers, as i've found much to my chagrin when playing on Dust in particular. The tunnels are just murder.

        Just my 2 cents.

I kinda don't mind it in the game but don't personally use it, so my option isn't there . It still seams like its got a few bugs. The shield and the 2 new guns are mainly only used by people who are still trying them out, or are newbies. But then some people have a weird fetish with new stuff, while the rest of use stick to what we know best, AK's, colts and Kevlars. I don't see the shield being used in league play, as the money would be better saved for a colt in the next round rather than take chances with shields against AK's.

ditto to foilage, and the 2 new guns arent much bad news. i find myself owning colt wielding players at close-med range with my galil. and does galil still penetrate shields? my 1.6 hasnt been workign since my gfx.wad problem.

Well, it was delayed so many times the technology of the game is un-impressive and it's just plain old. Thus, people loose interest.

I actually like the riot shield. I'll buy it when I feel like using a pistol, but when I need extra protection. Oh shit, that sounds like a tampon commercial.

The shield is just another useless toy, which will never be seriously used by anyone ever. A shield user just doesnt stand a chance against anything but pistols, and I can't really think of a reason why it would be better than a colt/ak/awp for any team..

/edit: hm yes maybe ct ecos, but Im sure they'd be much better off saving the money. Unless the other team are complete idiots the CTs will still lose.

delays happen to every game, of course they do, but why couldn't this have been released at 1.0 ?

I see nothing that needed this gap.

who buys armor on save rounds... maybe a kit if you're a ct or a nade if you're mass-nading somewhere, but armor? that nullifies the entire reasoning behind saving which is to have enough the next round for gun AND armor.

plus those options are pretty general, while i don't hate it i don't really think its all that great either, and i'm a big fan of league play. what should i vote for? in league play it may really increase the teamwork but then again thats one less rifle you have to kill with, think most people will stick with killing power over movable protection. may make an appearance for the cts on third round depending on how good the CTs are with pistols and if they know how to use the shield

Now that I look over the stats, buying tshield 3rd round wouldn't be too bad of an idea, save that the awpers of the map wouldn't buy them and would be using their teammates for cover, they could easily stack outside the bombsite and while the t's are running away from the C4 explosion, they'd be met with a pretty nasty suprise. Hmm.. sounds tastey. >:]

I buy armor on save rounds. I then proceed to follow my team around and pick up their guns when they die, OR pick up the enemy's guns when we kill them and move on.

I might end up playing with an AK (I hate AKs) but usually by the next round, I have enough money to do something that I want (and sometimes I don't die and get to keep the FREE GUN!). Plus this way, I'm not taking off a round as cannon fodder.

Not a bad idea I suppose, although that extra 1000 if you lost it would have helped you later.. I'll try it sometime, what I usually do is buy kit + nade for save rounds, a lot of the time my clan wins save roudns because we stacked the right site or took back a site with pistols and I end up defusing it while getting cover from em.

if anyone has played UT2K3, they know what a shield can do to a game; make it more defensive. I really think the shield needs 'hit points,' so it can break. Again, in UT, the shield can be taken out, plus there are enough splash damage alternatives that it isn't some invulnerable barrier... yet if you look at some of the scores on UT 1v1 matches, you can see just how big an effect the shield has had; the scores are often 2-0, 3-(-1) 4-2. It's made 1v1ing like soccer.

I don't know what kind of effect the shield is going to have on CS, but I really want it to fade away like the elites.

Oh look, another obligatory Goth joke for the Current Poll.

The shield's a mixed bag. If they don't fix those wild AK headshots or the possibility of the Galil being TOO powerful, it could help balance things out. But as it stands.....no.

Honestly, I don't really think the shield's physics are realistic, but we all know that.
