    Tuesday News Bits

It's a lovely Tuesday morning here in Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin. Here are some of the happenings today.
    • esreality has released an uncut movie of escw. it features interviews with a large variety of gamers including fatal1ty and shaguar. it was produced by 4k^simonb with his company igproductions.

    • remember hearing about how the new nvidia cards wouldn't support half-life 2? hl2-central has reported that the bug preventing compatibility is now fixed.

    • team 3d has updated their screen-shots gallery. it features a variety of nice cpl summer 2003 pictures.

    • cpl commisioner frank nuccio posted on dog that element from sk.sweden has won the cpl mvp award. no surprise to me, i had known for a long time that he is an amazing cs player and he definitely showed me so in cpl.

    • the cpl held a press conference on saturday about cpl summer 2004 changes. the main changes are more money, new location, more space, and more games.

    • tsn, the radio station that was privileged enough to cover cpl, announced the records that it had broke. they spend a lot of time elaborating on what they had done in the press release but basically, they had the largest number of active listeners in 1 day, (750) placing them in the shoutcast top 15. then they achieved 2,680 listeners, the highest number ever recorded for a lan event. i definitely enjoyed listening to tsn unlike the last cpl where ckr or something covered it and did a horrible job according to most listeners i talked to.

    • ugs has released the final version of de_ugs_villa. they fixed some bugs and made a few changes. this is still the map for ugs preseason, get scrimming! ugs has #ugs-scrim , if you want to find a team to practice this map against, your best luck is to look there.

    • team valor, a cal-main team, has decided to change their name to united 5. the reason for this is there is a cal-draft team called valor. #united5 for more info.

    • xamp has been updated. it fixed a few issues and added some things. xamp is a hotkey program that allows you to control winamp. you should definetly check it out, it's worth downloading if you play a lot of cs and listen to winamp at the same time. xamp will not have any issues with vac.
I think that wraps it up, enjoy!

hell yea, 3 cheers for awesome long posts! btw, that villa map looks to be fun :) what would be really nice is if they had a contest to see who can make the best pcw map, and the top, oh i dunno, 3 become official maps. i guess it would be very debatable though.. i think it'd be pretty cool though, give some lesser known mappers with actual skills a chance to "hit it big" i suppose

Remember hearing about how the new nvidia cards wouldn't support Half-Life 2? HL2-Central Has reported that the bug preventing compatibility is now fixed.
PHL has the full chatlog rather than HL2's "It works. Yay!".

To sum it up (it's really technical):
» You'd have to write your own cell-shader.

» "Anti-aliased has been fixed on all cards."

» You can now have things moving in the sky, and animated sky textures (animated clouds).

» They have a demo editor built in which allows "screen fade in / out, titling, sound fading, changing playback speed, issuing arbitrary commands, etc".

» They have a "Demo Smoother" which "allows for completely re-authoring the camera track of a demo as a post-process."

» Through steam, they can push hardware-specific versions of the game to you.

» They are giving away a lot of tools, and extensions to other tools to MOD authors.

» Source automatically does the doppler effect on things like bullets.

» "We've also collapsed the notion of cvars and commands into a root console primitive, the "ConCommand". Cvars and commands are defined in a single line, so there's no more registration system as well. The whole console autocomplete logic is mod-extensible."
Lots of other stuff for MOD authors and map makers. I'm neither.

Expect every new movie to have fade ins and rotated screens and anything else any amateur video maker can get their hands on. Remember, less is sometimes more.
