Hmm, there is an awful lot of generalisation going on in here. Firstly i would like someone to tell me where they saw that this was an unfinished version or final beta of the game that was reviewed. Secondly, what do you mean you don't know what snooker is?!?! don't be so narrow minded, and unlike your "world Series" baseball, funniest thing i ever heard as it takes part in only one country.... snooker takes part all over the world (it is boring though).

Pczone have taken the stance of not reviewing games that aren't gold masters or final products for quite a few years now, and although i can't speak for pcgamer, i don't get that one, i suspect they followed suit, otherwise they wouldn't sell here.

I would NOT go grouping pczone and pcgamer into the "british tabloid" fraternity, it is so far from the truth its not even funny. If you wanna see some real shit printed on paper, go read our "the sun" or "the mirror" or even the classic "news" paper, "the star" - THAT is what you should refer to as bollox, er i mean tabloid.

I might add that pczone also reviews things differantly,, they mark lower so that a game that scores in the 90%'s may not appear in the magazine for a few issues, only the very best games score that way, so 79% is not too bad, it classes 90% and over as a "Classic" and 80%-89% as an essential purchase for gamers.

Also i was unaware that c&vg was british, its shite tbh.

To sum up, they gave plus and minus points of:

    Plus:

+ Great bots to play counterstrike with offline.

    + New weapons.

+ Play online with bots and humans.

+ Excellent training tool for online sessions.

    Minus:

    - Cliched, glitched, dated and unoriginal single player campaign.

    - Clipping problems through-out.

    Summary:

Would have been essential had the essential part not been avilable free.

Anyway Edge is a very good magazine. Some magazines are shit, some aren't. Just like in every other country around the world.

I never said our reviewers were better. Not once. And that's all I've been hearing from people like Vamp.

I was searching for their name. They had a US counterpart called NextGen.

Edge is the only gaming magazine that's good, from the few issues I've read of them and others. They're like the BBC and PC Zone is like the Sun or whatever.

I tend to prefer the writing style found in the UK press (personal opinion), but reviewing unfinished games is never acceptable - regardless of the country of origin.
Well that's one person in the UK who doesn't like the practice. We're starting a trend!

I'm apathetic, I don't care if they review before or after release, because the versions of the game they'd be reviewing would be near identical (or so I've been led to believe)

I think the thing that ruins the game the most is the standard weapon models and skins (like the Colt model which looks like toy)

I think that we should wait and see, thank god that HL2 and CS 1.6 are just over the Horizon and hope they CS mod HL2.

As for the review, its done and in the public domain people will take what they want from it to bolster their view of what the completed game will be like, Either shit or great. Thats what reviews are for, to enable people to make a judgment about if they want to buy the game or not. As for the review being done on an uncompleted game i still blame the publisher for that. It should have been left until the game went gold. You can hardly blame a mag for reviewing a game at beta when it was released to them for that purpose.

They have just waited far too long to release this game and any enthusiasm that the CS community had for the game has simply ebbed away.

Actually the point I was mainly putting across wasn't that we were better per se, just that we're more truthful. Whether that's a good thing or a bad thing is up to you.

I'm late on the debate, so heres what I jave to say: "shut up you inbred rednecks". There.

Might I add how much drivel there is in the US press? It seems the popukar concensus is that you Americans like the media of mon country. I once saw a picture of Dubya reading the Financial Times, how strange.

also PCZ has a practice of allowing gamers to individually counterreview a game, quite often they are able to admit they got a review wrong and the fan has its own say, so when cs:CZ comes out and wyou whole heartedly disagreee Rze, write your own review of the game, score it yourself, and I am sure they will print it, and u can set right the wrongs of the world, However, as the gameplay was the most complained about thing of the game, and certainly im not looking for a single player scripted bs shoot em up game any time soon, ( or in fact for the rest f my life, i learnt COmmando on c64 well and truly along with 1944 and really theres very little else to do witht he genre)i WOULD BE AMAZED IF U DID GIVE THE FINAL GAME AN ESSEBNTIAL SCORE.

Are you limey dorks over your fasncination and celebration of the UK media? You have an industry tabloid press; continuing the trend, you have a tabloid gaming press.

That is not a qualification. That is not a good thing. It doesn't make them more cynical or free or "telling it like it is." This isn't Def Comedy Jam, where reporters scream out, "YEAH I SAID IT! WHAT YOU GONNA DO? YEAH I SAID IT!"

I wonder why they review games before they're done? Is it for journalistic integrity or perhaps cynicism?

No, but maybe you should be a bit more cynical. They do it for money. They want the EXCLUSIVE, so they review games from preview copies that aren't given to all of the UK press. They want your pounds, not your respect about their "cynicism."

US reviews are just as brutual as reviews from the UK. The difference is that in the US the reviewers wait for the game to be finished.

While I understand that it's likely that CS:CZ will suck, in many cases the UK review system is a failure. See overwhelming positive reviews for C&C: Tiberium Sun and Black & White.
The british pre-reviewed tomb raider 1 and gave it a thumbs up.

                        Not because it sucked

                        Because it surpassed thier expectatations

The british pre-reviewed the japanese version of final fantasy 7 and gave it a thumbs up.

Not because they had a translator.

But because the games visuals broke down language barriers.

Takes a lot to excite a games journalist.

                        This doesn't.

There will come a time when you'll reevaluate your perspectives, rizzuh. Not because your ideals are wrong, but because you're young.

I'm joking, calm down. Everyone knows that the whole subject of Canadians Vs. Americans is a dumb one to which there really isn't any concrete or substantial evidence/reasons to start such a fight.

if the game got 90+ from these mags, u guys would be like 'whoa this is gonna own' just cos 2 mags have basically gave the game sub 90 scores, everyone is like 'this is fucking bollox, how the hell can they slag cs:cz off' csnation are

who cares ne ways? if u buy the game and u like it, then gg.

if u buy it and h8 it or think its just plain average u can moan about it and bitch at ritual for screwing it up.

im a subscriber of pc zone and read gamer sometimes, yes the reviews are sometimes dodgy, but most magazines are.
