That makes more sense, although if Ritual obviously aren't happy with the current incomplete product, why Vivendi would think it a good idea to get the reviews out early is incomprehensible to me. If a film is suspected to be a poor performer they usually hold off as long as possible to let the reviews be posted. What do Vivendi gain by allowing a half baked version out of the doors?
No, Vivendi. The publisher.Comment

Although thanks for pointing out Black & White which got 95% or so and with the comments, best game ever. Even sticking by it when everyone else in the world finnaly got to play it.
But what the hell our press is run by evil old maids throwing rumours into our fat faces and calling them truthes unlike the hollier than thou US mags.Comment

Game making takes time.
Takes dedication.
Takes love of the game.
And in VALVe's case, takes penis. It seems they are in short supply there on as what seems to be a 24/7 basis.
PS: Vamp, they should make a sequel to Legend of DragoonComment

download Counter-Strike V1.6 (which we've been informed by Valve will already be available for download when you read this)
Actually I read the review when it was in the magazine and in a small insert it actually says August 27th....which still probably won't happen but you never know...
Also after reading it I cancelled my pre-order, they made a lot of points about the scripted points in the game and no replayability and also made the point that most features will appear in 1.6 - apart from the odd few.
EDIT: I said 'point' too many times I think :)Comment

Rizzuh, you of all people should know better. Yes, UK magazines often review games before they come out in the shops. That's because they get preview copies, as do the american magazines (in fact, all magazines from almost all countries use the preview copies for reviews). The differance is that the UK magazines get put out early (almost all of them release their issues a month early, for example they'll release a December issue in early November). This way we get the same review, but we get it before we even think about buying said game. It's just a better system.
That is not a qualification. That is not a good thing. It doesn't make
US reviews are just as brutual as reviews from the UK. The difference is that in the US the reviewers wait for the game to be finished.
And US magazines arn't as 'truthful' as our magazines. Obviously each review is done by a reviewer, so really reviews mean nothing, because they're just one persons opinion, and often game reviewers are biased towards one particullar type of game anyway. Still, our reviewers are more 'honest'. I read quite a few gaming magazines, including american ones (because the americans often get games a few months earlier anyway, so sometimes it's better to read their magazines fopr earlier reviews), covering PC, PS2 and XBox. And everytime I compaire reviews, our British ones are alot more harsh. Maybe we only ever look for the worst in thing, and the americans actually mention the good things. But maybe not. For example, the UK version of Official Playstation Magazine ripped into Legend Of Dragoon, giving it a score of around 3/10 (I say around that, I haven't got the issue right here with me and it's an old issue anyway), while the US OPM gave it aorund 8/10 (again, I say around, because I haven't got the exact issue here to verify it, but I remember thinking it was a very high score). The UK issue got alot of complaints form peopel saying actually the game was very good....... but it got even more letters saying that the UK issue had scored it too highly and in actual fact LOD was even worse then OPM had mad eit out to be. The US issue also got alot of letters, again saying the game was alot worse then they had made it out to be.
The point is that the US magazines DO rate games highier and they only look for the good things in games, rarely mentioning the bad aspects of games. UK magazines are the opposite, only mentioning the bad things and rarely praising the good. And frankly, the vast majority of the time, the UK magazines are right.Comment

I love the way all the people here hate on the UK press and whatever.
We live in a capitalist world, and they feel that if they can review a big game, complete or not, it will sell magazines.
The publisher of the game is the real idiot for letting them review it, unless of course, the publisher isn't gonna change much in the game. :/Comment

It's all well and good to blame the British press for reviewing pre-release betas but wouldn't that really make it the publisher's fault? (Assuming of course that it was Vivendi who supplied the game to them.)
I mean the publisher obviously wanted PC Zone / PC Gamer(UK) to review this version, (or they wouldn't have supplied it to them,) so they must have considered it to be representative of the final game...
Blaming the 'tabloid gaming press' under such circumstances is simply shooting the messenger!Comment

Are you completely off the ball?
Here's a recent SOFII review from your beloved UK gaming press: http://www.computerandvideogames.com/r/...ews_story.php
Please rationalize this to me. Not only do they praise SoF2's stealth, which was tedious and horrible, but the ONLY criticism is a "lack of direction." Boy, that sure is insightful. They don't hold back anything!
And what's this??? On IGN.com they offer an actual four page review, and a rating of 5.8, compared to 8 from the invincible UK press:

HURR HURR, your anecdotal evidence just doesn't matter. Every single UK gaming magazine is tabloid journalism (except nextgen or whatever, if that's still around). I'm sorry if this hurts your feelings or nationalistic pride, but more to the point is the fact that you are defending the practice reviewing unfinished products.Comment

Publishers are stupid for agreeing to this practice, but if the UK press wanted to change they could preview the games just as the US does.
Well then so are the publishers of the game, they obviously had no objections to the review, hate on them.Dangki wrote..
CS:CZ hasn't been released, though.
Do you think there is any game released besides Pong that could possibly not have bugs?
I'm more concerned about them saying certain weapons aren't in the game, when Ritual map designers say they are in the game. How is that even close to an accurate picture?Comment
