Here are a few bits of news from the CS community this morning.

• ownij digital entertainment is holding their own lan event really soon. based in irvine, california, this event is for those teams that aren't (yet) good enough for the cpl events starting next thursday.
  
  
  
  
• team shockwave, a cal-i team, has retired from cs. they released a statement on gotfrag. reasons for the breakup are inactive members and the active members going to different cs teams.
  
  
  
  
• ugs has announced a sponsorship from aowc. the prizes for next season of ugs-invite is $500 in cash and a public & private server of their choice, supplied by aowc. ugs is a highly organized league and has begun to grow in popularity these recent weeks.
  
  
  
  
• sogamed has published a very nice article on boot-camping. boot-camping is when cs teams play cs 24/7 in preparation for a tournament. boot-camping is happening right now with some of the top cs teams preparing for summer cpl.
  
  
  
  
• domain of games has reportedly been hacked. the site is down right now, but when it was up it certainly appeared to have been hacked. there is no word if this was related to the attacks on cal-invite team pages.

Here are some bits of news from this afternoon.

• gotfrag has received word that 3 top european teams, mouz, mtw.se, and matrix will not be attending the summer cpl as planned. reasons include lack of preparation and members out of town.
  
  
  
  
• ugs, a cs & dod league, has released their own scrim channel on gamesnet irc, #ugs-scrim. it's only for max-round 15 scrims. i'm looking forward to seeing all the new teams in ugs this season, this move of a new mr15 only scrim channel will add to their recent increase in popularity. you should go sign up for this coming season. for those of you new to ugs its basically another cal but with max-rounds 15 and prizes.
  
  
  
  
• uh oh, an a-losers.msi wcg scandal. apparently a-losers couldn't attend wcg (summer cpl) and instead of coming they asked for their opponents to forfeit and offered their opponents tactics and pcw's instead of playing them ( they knew they were going to lose so why not let a-losers teach them some cs). soon after the public found and a-losers dropped out of wcg in disgrace. later they released a press release.
  
  
  
  
• sk.sweden has announced a gamesnet irc channel, #skswe, it has already succeeded in attracting ranks of idlers and i got voice! woohoo thanks sk|gosey.
  
  
  
  
• the gamers documentary has made a press release. the dvd featuring the speakeasy offensive and underdogs second 2 none in summer cpl 2002 is available for pre-order on dvd. the film is seriously packed interviewing just about everyone and covering cpl 2002.
  
  
  
  
• fragbite has made a preview of cpl dallas interviewing 10 players from top cpl teams.
  
  
  
  
• one last pre-cpl news bit for you guys, check out an interview with tec!elude and 3d|torbull.

  mymtw|marcelb: this event won't be played with the classic de_aztec. was this a good move on the cpl's part, or should they of kept aztec in the rotation?
  
  
  
  3d | torbull: again, i personally like aztec better than cobble but i guess they felt it was too imbalanced (the same reason they no longer use prodigy). i agree that it is unbalanced and i suppose that's why they introduced fire into the map rotation this year.

Ah, news bits. Just the right amount of crunchiness to each bite, and now with more filling!

• remember when i interviewed team 3d and they mentioned picking up a 6th player? they've announced that 6th player, who just happens to be sal "volcano" garozzo, former starter of zex and recently tsg. sal will not only be now a member of team 3d, but also will be starting with the rest of the us guys at the wcg usa finals.
  
  
  
  
• team rs, who placed 13th-16th at the cpl, have changed their name to heat, which stands for honor emotion ambition teamwork. additionally, heat is the #2 seed going into the cal-main atlantic playoffs.
  
  
  
  
• cal-premier team evenflow, who upset eg by beating them at the cpl, has "retired from online play". whether this means they've broken up or have just taken a break remains to be seen, but they've already been marked as dead in premier.
  
  
  
  
• cal-premier champions echo 7 and recent moveup to cal-i have broken up. leader hal "simonz" turpin has retired from cs, while the other players have moved on to other teams.
  
  
  
  
• anonymous 5 has been moved up to cal-invite after a runner-up finish in cal-premier and the death of echo 7.
  
  
  
  
• finally, for all those interested, cal-open registration is now open! if you've been meaning to get in cal, then now is the time.

Though eally everyone should be pissed at a-losers, at least they know they arsed up and they know they are in the wrong. I think some clans would try to deny everything and end up looking even worse. So at least a-losers had the balls to come out and openly admit they screwed up. Lord help them in future leagues, I doubt many leagues will trust them from now on.



On a lighter note, that interview with Torbull was kinda pointless, though it gave me something to do for five minutes, so I guess some good came out of it. I found it quite interesting seeing what Torbull thought about he 'new' map cycle, though I thought de_clan_fire (which by the way, is possibly the best map around) was already in it.....hmm...... maybe I'm thinking of something else....

It helps my eyes when there's line breaks between the bullets.



Anyway, it's somewhat amusing to me seeing "scandals" in the eSports scene. Somehow I just can't help but laugh, despite all my enjoyment of the idea of eSports.
