I'd love for C-D (or any anti-cheat) to go open source actually. It's great for security: look at Linux.

I have to agree with Steakeater here. Every single time in the last month that I've played on a VAC 'secure' server there has been at least one cheater on, and I really do mean 'every single time'.
NEWSFLASH: Someone good at CS is not a cheater.
Now I myself know a cheater when I see one, and I see obvious cheaters that are disrupting to the game (IE obvious aimbotting, wallhacking) on VAC servers about once a month. It's almost insignificant. And i pub on vac servers every day. I consider CD a waste of time because of this: Whether it is more effective as blocking cheats than VAC is absolutely irrelevant, as my gaming experience is only ruined by an obvious hacker every once and a while, and it takes all of 2 minutes to find a new server. And since this only happens about once or maybe twice a month it's even less of a hassle than starting CD every time you want to play.
And about HLAmp being a false positive, this is absolutely not true. HLAmp is interacting with and integrating itself with the engine EXACTLY like cheats do. If you go out in to the Iraqi battlefield dressed as an Iraqi soldier and start shooting an ak47 loaded with blanks at the US army, don't expect to not get shot.Comment

I have to agree with MikeJ here. C-D is not that great, and VAC sucks. I see cheaters at least once a week - aimbotting and wallhacking. If someone is obviously cheating the server usually empties out in about 2 minutes. Then they leave and the server is fine again. In the meantime, using ASE, I could have found 40000 other servers to play on.
I have been banned from servers because I killed someone who I actually saw run around a corner - shot the wall and killed them. The newberts take exception to that and ban you. You see, like many here, they assume that a player who can anticipate moves, knows what walls are bulletproof and what aren't, what corners ppl sit in etc.. are hackers. Many are just people who've been playing since the betas and know the maps as well as the people who created them. I play cs_militia a lot, one of my favorite maps as either team. You would not believe how many times I have shot people through walls and doors on that map just because I know people camp in those places, then I get accused, kicked and banned with no proof whatsoever - all thanks to people who couldn't take the time to actually develop skill at a game that's not that hard to begin with.
Bottom line - hackers ruin this game for everyone. There is no effective way to combat hax - except kill the people that use them in real life.
Best method to defeat a hax0r - everyone LEAVE THE SERVER. Eventually no one will play against these people and they will stop playing CS after getting bored of seeing this message, "Scoring will begin once another player has joined" in their console.Comment

when i build my new Uber-PC for HL2 i am going to include a LCD screen with buttons in one of the drive bays (right below the fan bus) to control winamp and monitor the PC temp.
Aren't there programs out there for winamp that you control it through your keyboard without interacting with HL.
VAC makes me smile. i know it doesn't catch them all but seeing "banned for past cheating violations" on my server's console screen warms my heart.Comment

As a little test for how good VAC is compaired to C-D, I went and fired up my old (6 month old) hacks that I have to admit I used alot when I first started to play CS (though rest assured I don't use them now, which would explain why my scores are usually around 1:20). They worked fine on a VAC server (again, the games-fusion.com server). Now I remember going onto a C-D server (OrcUK, great server though it's closed down now *lame*) a few months back, and I remember getting my arse kicked for the first time ever because me '1337 hacks' weren't working. Considering the age of the cheats I have on my PC, I think it's pretty solid that C-D is better then VAC. Now I'm not doing an XBox-fanboy style thing and going "OMG liek d00d this thing >>>>> beter thn the thing you have cause mines beter n ures teh suks!!!!!11!!!!one!!!!". I respect VAC and I know cheating would be alot worse without it,a nd it should definatly be kept. However, I do think C-D works better, at least in my experiance.Comment

C-D is not fool proof nor is VAC they both have flaws. If you want to HACk on a server you will find away to do it. Hackers can not be stopped just slowed down, everyone should know that by now. You would have to reinvent the wheel to try and stop hackers. I hate it when a hacker comes on my server but I just ban him but this is only a temporary fix until he changes wonid or IP address. O well enough talking about hackers....it just part of the game like nOObs!!!Comment
