I don't think it's a question of disk2's skill. VAC isn't openly going out to detect HLAmp, it just looks like a cheat when VAC sees it. Disk2 could play the cheat game and constantly update it every week like the cheat developers do to get past VAC, but what legitimate player wants to put themselves through that, especially with the risk of being detected. It's a sacrifice you have to make and functionality you have to give up. You can't blame valve, you can only blame the hook makers.

yes there are, but some people for some reason absolutely need to be able to have something automatically say "i am listening to "No One Gives A Fuck" by Spammers".



besides that gay aspect of HLAmp, I liked it because of the in game GUI.

Maybe with the source engine there will be development tools for third party coders allowing them to write plugins and such that aren't detected as third party intrusion software, don't allow for game interaction - ie cheats, but allow for functionality such as noki mod and HLAMp.

tbh mike, when i first heard that disk2 was releasing HL irc and HLamp which hooked into the game the same way as ogc (ahem) did, i thought to myself....hmm....someone (disk2) must've been peeking at the OGC source code...naughty naughty....

Let's not forget the endless legions of idiots who will flame disk2 for getting caught with one of these consecutive updates. He's doing something positive, and that's what matters.



Hopefully when 1.6 is released, valve will get their act together and work with disk2 to get hlamp integrated into 1.6

I don't listen to music while playing - the voicemod is bad enough - I know you can mute ppl, but I'll be trying to hear footsteps and some little pre-pube ass is voicespamming and I get killed, argh! Add music to that and I'd go crazy! Then if I'd get banned for listening to it - that might be the end of CS for me.

the question is did disk2 do winamp before the hackers put it in their multihacks, or did he reverse engineer it? Did they nick it form him?

The multihacks i have seen have a version of hlamp within them, and are some are still not detected, so whaddayaknow, maybe someone should give a hacker a job to catch other hackers. Problem is theyre untrustworthy bastards.

If you just want the spam you can do it easily with a winamp plugin:

adjust the plugin to write a file to your mod directory like this:

C:\Games\Half-Life\cstrike\nowplaying.cfg



also set the 'while playing:' output text to something like this:

say I'm listening to %name



now go into cs or edit your config.cfg

bind "F9" "exec nowplaying.cfg"



Now you are all set for song spamfest without any hack :)



If you need to set system wide shortcuts to switch songs etc there are plugins to do exactly that, this one for example:

Err, you'll have to config it somehow to not output to mirc too...

Type asdf or something in the dde server config to the left in the plugin settings for AMIP. (Or disable the dde server in mirc)

They could release every 10 minutes, but if they're only going to detect less than 50% of known public cheats, it's still pretty useless.



Whereas on the other hand, C-D still blocks over 99% of public cheats. I'm not a statistics man, but the percentages look pretty obvious...



Apparently the subculture of blame online still wants to point the finger and say "I KNEW HE CHEATED!", though, so I guess that's why we still insist on detection, and why there are probably more than a few hlamp users waiting until 2008...
