lol the gcache is hardly haxxed, they are just bink movies in a folder :x Fsk even i managed to convert them to divx, but i deleted them shortly after because the originals were better quality :P

Yea, the files are in the folder "media", i believe, in a .exe file. It required no hacking, any 8 year old moron can find the file and post it. Now hacking the gcache would be fun...

i think eric johnson meant fro mthe CACHE file. which is the big .gcf file that holds all the movies.

yeah the quality of the bink video is amazing, it looks as if youre actually playing the game itself! no artifacts or visible compression aliasing.

This has to be the best video by far (out of the 3). The G-Man video was OK, but got boring after watching it a few times. The docks video was just plain boring (albeit very nice to look at). This one is not boring and also very nice to look at. Oh, and jaggies are less apparent.



Oh and on another note... err.. I uninstalled HL, Opposing Force, and Blue Shift ages ago (well, didnt uninstall them, but rather never installed them after formatting my HD), but I can still play them via Steam? What's up with that? Are they giving it away for free? That's very nice of them, don't you think? No? Well... f**k off.

Wonder what kind of bandwidth you'd need to stream these uncompressed videos, at this high-resolution? Anyone care to take a guess?

video size: 70,284 kbytes

= 71,970,816 bytes

= 575,766,528 bits



total time: 1min 21 secs

= 81 secs



speed = size / time

= 575,766,528 / 81

= 7,108,228 bits/sec

= 6,941 kbits/sec (kbps)

= 6.78 Mbps



or in layman's terms:

A "7 meg line" is need to stream gman video at full frame rate

Nope it's not free. Steam will automatically scan your hard disk for your credit card info and automatically deduct USD$65.50 for payment, regardless of whether you play it or not.
