yea but it helps provide the processing power to run a server like that and not have much lag

I hate the stupid shield, rain and new version of aztec in the beta - how do u change it back?
Don't buy the shield, and use cl_weather 0 to get rid of the rain.

Also Valve is gonna squash the recent shield exploit before final release.

Unless they're taking advantage of extra-long numbers in their math (__uint64?) or need to address obscenely large amounts of memory, it's not going to amount to a whole heck of a lot of processing power.

If you've gotta spend $ and want to improve lag, look at your net connection first?

God damn, this font bug sucks. I can still read fine but it's a pain. I only run in 1152x864, but it squishes the text. Ew.
ditto Does anyone feel the ingame graphics look more stretched too? or is that soem wierd optical illusion of having 'longscreen' text?

Yes theres another horrid lamers cheaty type exploit and last night after I had told a guy off for using it, he went and posted it on steam forums, again... Been around for a while, but he decided it is best to get loads of lamers to do it on order to 'force' Valve to fix it. In any case, ANY exploiters should be banned by admins when caught, usuaqlly says clearly on MOTD's DO NOT USE EXPLOITS and then the poor nub turns around and says 'its not cheating' well it is so dont do it.

Who talks about maxplayers? I mean multiple HLDS servers...

First test runs shows 1% average load and 15% max CPU usage running a 32 PPL CS server. That means 4 or 5 32ppl servers on the same machine.. Maybe 15-20 16 ppl server... that means a lot of savings for hosts...

In this case, its not about memory addressing stuff... just raw cpu power and memory bandwith... And the Intel's Xeon is far behind from the AMD's Opteron...

Apples and Oranges, unless we're talking about the execution of IA-32 code and the Opteron happens to do it faster. But the Opteron would handle that natively, and Valve wouldn't need to rewrite anything for the Opteron in IA-32 mode. So what you're saying is that the Opteron handles IA-64 code better than a Xeon, which is like saying that a 747 can fly at higher altitudes than my Toyota .

But that's cool that it can handle that kind of load. I'd be interested in hearing if the code will run on an Itanium and how it performs.

It involves the shield protecting the player as if it were deployed, but still able to use the weapons. So if ya see players running around and shooting with the shield in the undeployed position but still being fully protected from the front they are likely using the exploit.

Opteron does not run IA64 but X86-64 which is different... And making an application IA64 compliant is far more expensive than make it for AMD64 (AMD64 only requires some code touches and recompiling). Anyway... who would run CS on an Itanium 2 (some thousands $$ per processor)?
