    Saturday Ketchup SE

Today is a very special Saturday, yes.

    CS-Nation turns three

Three years ago today a small CS fansite was launched on Planet Half-Life. Planet Counter-Strike and CS-Legacy were passed up for the name CS-Nation. A construction-site themed design exploded on to our 3,000 viewer's screens. Fragmaster welcomed us. Synax greeted everyone. We bragged about being "official," which we weren't. Such a great first day. If you want more of our amazing history, you'll have to read the about CS-Nation page.

Obviously a lot has happened since our launch. An obvious one is our large following: yesterday we got 67,000 uniques and over 170,000 page views. That still floors me, and the rest of the team. We're also a very strong content site now. The combination of great content and some of the best news coverage out there makes me incredibly proud of the site. Here's to hoping that we can keep up the great work.

There's plenty of thanks to be given. I'd like to thank Gooseman and cliffe for creating such a great game. The original reason for joining the CSN team was to give something back to the CS team. Another thanks to cliffe for inviting us to join Counter-Strike.net as their second hosted site. I'd like to thank STEM and GameSpy for giving us our own Linux server with PHP: they're fueling my hobby! My deepest thanks to all of our current team members and those who have left the team. Thanks to our thousands of visitors and comment whores, whom all have very good taste.

We're very pleased to be the oldest CS fansite out there. And very happy that so many CS fans out there have chosen CS-Nation as their destination for news, features, strategies, and all that other good stuff.

    this week in content

Last Sunday I posted mailbag on nickname stories. On Wednesday we posted two new user strategies. Yesterday we posted great de_dust and de_chateau map strategies.[break="news, coding, and weekly wisdom"]in the news

Militia2 released (map). CAL-i results (Monday). US clan WEW wins $20k in Taiwan. UKT interviews Angel Munoz of CPL.

    coding fun

A lot was actually done this week (in other words, I actually made a changelog). I've coded a new PayPal interface system, so CS-Nationalist upgrades are instant. I've also established set prices for the CS-Nationalist service: $2.50 for you or your friend. Yep, you can upgrade a friend.

I've added a formal comments page. Here you can review the rules, search comments, track new comments, and follow hot topics. You can limit comment searches to a specific user (suggested by Paul Shuttle, I believe). The search now displays a preview of the matching comment.

Minor things: Your user preferences are now stored in the session, meaning there will be a little speed increase in the site's performance; searches now show output concerning what range of matches you're viewing, now have a different highlighting style, and no longer screw up the design by highlighting actual page code; the Skin of the Day page has links to search for other skins of the same type, other author works, and other submitted skins by the user who submitted the currently viewed SOTD.

    weekly wisdom

Two teams of two is better than four of one and one of four.

    csnation history

csn started by a bunch of losers, rze drafter in as an over-keen news poster

csn owners get bored and fuck off, rizzuh takes over

csn gets hosted at cs.net and gets a shit design

csn gets popular and hence more shit designs

rizzuh loses interest and gives csn to choochoo train

choochoo tain doesnt know what he's doing so garry runs it for a month

rizzuh realises there's no other prospects in his life so takes csn back

    csn turns 3

OH BTW can you make it so it doesn't keep asking me to donate to get a avatar (I already have and it gets a bit tedious)

Great job on doing such a brilliant site for the counter-strike community. Me and alot of others come here everyday to check up on the news because we know your the first to get it. Alot of sites dont really get this much hits or fans and cs-nation really has estabalished itself as the number 1 counter-strike site. My hat goes off to you guys, long live CS-N

Congratulations on making such a wonderful site and keeping thousands of people informed on everyday Counter-Strike happenings. I thank CSNation for providing me exactly the things I want: Information, Awsome Contests, And Important Downloads. CSNation has been my Home Page for well over a few months now, and it looks to stay that way for a very long time. Happy B-DAY CSNation!

I hate that construction site screenshot. It proves I once used ICQ (I'm the 'Dave [3dgaming.com]' bloke) - something I have always regretted (apart from the time it got me back together with my ex- and duly separated us again 3 months later, but don't get me into that). MSN-Messenger all the way!

                Congrats CSN.

No offence, but I liked your first design the most... :/

                              Amen to that.

Bring back CS-Spoof, as well, so Garry will have something better to do than pick on newbies.
