Myers at UKTerrorist has interviewed CPL founder and CEO Angel Munoz. They chat about the CPL Pentium 4 Summer Event and more, including this tidbit about a game possibly in development that may intend to supplant or complement Counter-Strike:

I remember reading that the CPL had plans to develop its own game for future competitions, can you elaborate on this?



Angel - The Cyberathlete Professional League will not build games, but maybe an organization related to the CPL will. We will announce more details in about 30 days.

That would acually be kinda cool, because then all the teams would be introduced to it at the same time. So none of them could be cheesy and get extra practice time or anything. Sweet.

Why would they develop CS:CZ purely for the CPL?

Most of the guns are balanced my enraged friend. Nothing is completely unblanced and needs a nerf or anything. It's just that when someone who is good with a particualr weapon does extreamly good, everyone thinks it's unbalanced as hell and complains that VALVe should make it weigh 4000lbs and cause you to lose 5hp per second holding it.

i think it's lame that the cpl is making their own "game". They're trying to be like a proffesional sport and yet they're a league MAKING a game. Isn't that a tad bit backwards.



the fact of the matter is that the cpl is going to get bored of cstrike, and attempt to make something that requires complete skill to win.



they dropped quake like a bad habit to pick up and endorse counter strike and it's gonna happen likewise with counter strike.
