Texturing is always the last thing I do with maps; I just throw down some point-of-reference textures as I build and polish geometry. (Not that I'm any good as a mapper, mind -- I don't release maps to more than a small group of playing friends.) I wouldn't pay any mind to anything but the basic layout of an unfinished map.
