The United Gaming Syndicate (UGS) is proud to announce that it is officially opening its doors to the public. The United Gaming Syndicate was founded May 2002 when the administrators of the second and third largest online gaming leagues decided to merge and create one of the largest and most competitive online amateur leagues in the United States. UGS is the combination of the administrators from the Recon Gamer League (RGL) and the Iron Glove League (IGL).
The RGL has been thriving in the eastern and central parts of the United States and Canada for the past 2 years. The IGL was created in 1997 and was one of the first online gaming leagues available to gamers in the US and Canada. The combination of these two leagues has been undertaken to create one of the world's premier online gaming leagues. With the involvement of some of the best and most experienced administrators in the online gaming community, we believe we can achieve this goal.[break="read the rest of their press release"]Our plan is to provide the virtual gamer a structured league environment where they can compete and excel in whatever game or games they choose. The amateur leagues will hold playoffs and championship matches for the teams in each division. At this point no major online gaming league awards prizes to its members, however we will be awarding more than $5,000 of prizes in our inaugural season as UGS. We intend for the league to develop into a catalyst which facilitates the establishment of the first truly professional, electronic gaming league.
With the proven track record of the league admins, prizes and the strong caliber of clans, UGS looks to be one of the most competitive leagues around. The leaders of UGS not only plan to continue to revolutionize online gaming, but also are committed to extending their efforts into offline gaming. We plan to hold our first LAN competition by the end of 2002 and will be working with sponsors and partners on future events beyond that.
Initially UGS will operate online leagues for three games: Counter-Strike (CS), Day of Defeat (DoD) and War Craft III (WC3). We plan to add two to three additional games in the near future. Games currently under consideration for our next wave of expansion are Medal of Honor Allied Assault (MOHAA), NASCAR Racing 2002/03, Links LS and UT2K3.
Players and clans will be able to sign up for the various UGS leagues on our site beginning Monday, August 5th. The initial signup period will remain open for approximately two weeks. Pre-season play will begin the following week, followed by the start of the regular season for each of the three games.
Our IRC channels on irc.gamesnet.net will initially be as follows:
#UGS - General information and help
#UGS-CS - Counter-Strike
#UGS-DoD - Day of Defeat
#UGS-WC - Warcraft III
Sincerely,
UGS Staff and Administrators.
