3D Action Planet posted a good article on Wednesday in the midst of the CPL Championship madness. The article takes a look into The Future Of Professional Gaming, and it examines what might be pro-gaming's flagship after Counter-Strike is gone.
The future of pro-gaming is secured. Games are outselling Movies, and the internet is providing millions of people with a vast and diverse playing field in which to compete. With the games developing more complexity, and the availability of broadband increasing, we are becoming more adept at playing games than most of us ever were at more conventional sports. And at the very peak of this jostling pile of frag-hungry humanity stand the elite. The very few players in the world who can actually play games for a living. For these pioneers of an emergent sport, the Cyberathletes Professional League (CPL) plays host to their skill. The article also contains about half a dozen question and answers with CPL CEO and founder Angel Munoz. Read the rest of the article here.
The Cyberathlete Professional League has very recently secured $50 million to increase prizes and improve the image of their league. This means that pro-gaming is set to get bigger. But where is this going to go? Will pro-gaming mean Counter-Strike competitions ad-infinitum? It will depend not on the game as much as the audience. The Cyberathlete Professional League knows this only too well.
