to install just unzip it or setit up, whichever one it is, into your Half Life folder, then open up half life or cs and go to Custom Game, then select counter life and hit activate or whatever.

i played CL through twice when it first came out, i liked it. it was tough bcause they didnt have anywhere to buy in zen.

Increase weapons damage (half of original damage in CS)
If anything I think they already did too much damage to begin with in the original CL.

How do I install this thang?
Unzip it to a folder within your Half-Life directory (preferably one called somethign like "CL" so you know what it is), run the cs-install.bat program, and it's all done.

Load up Half-Life, go to custom game, load Counter-Life, select new game, and go. :)

            Now the game....

Now, I thought the idea of setting the single-player story of HL within the CS world would be a good idea (I still do), but this mod just fails badly IMO. The makers have simply thought "Wow, wouldn't it be cool to use a PARA on those grunts in HL!" They've failed to think about the gameplay of it at all. The weapons are all taken from beta5.2, so have incredibly easy recoil, and even on the hardest difficulty, you can still walk around killing everything up to hgrunts (I only got that far) with a glock. Add to that the fact that the hgrunts have useless aim/damage to at all compensate for your OTT power (If you're going to make the player as powerful as CS, at least make his opponents too). Oh, and plus the fact I had every weapon by the end of We've got hostiles (Remember those tense moments in HL where you ran low on ammo? Not in this game). I didn't see much point in carrying on TBH.

Nice idea boys (if hardly original), but 2/10 for effort. Perhaps if it had been 1.5 weapons/recoil systems, and enemies that could damage me, it would have been a challenge.

Yep they should make it harder, but using the podbot AI will be a bit too overwhelming though.............. considering that in We Have Hostiles.....the grunts often outnumber you 3 to 1......

They should also use the latest weapon models though......

MAN! There are really HUGE amounts of retro CS/HL mods recently.....maybe a sign that 1.5 sucks????????

I actually kind of enjoyed the original Counter-Life. No, it wasn't terribly challenging as compared to my memories of single-player Half-Life. Granted, you gon't get the unlimited ammo of the bee-gun (or the wonderful homing action it could utilize against those nearly invisible white mini-crab things), but there's certainly enough M4 and MP5 ammo to make due with, especially since the original CL had a bug which allowed you to use all your Para ammo in your M4. However, to keep the game fun, you really had to avoid the AWP at almost all times (though perhaps fine against that hiddeous crab o' death that has the whole Lair thing on Xen).

The most annoying bug (dunno if it's been resolved yet... wasn't mentioned) was when you fire zoomed, then switch to another weapon during the bolt-action, the weapon you switched to would be zoomed (even if it was an mp5 or a knife or whatever) until you switched away from it and back.

As far as improvements, though... I wouldn't want to see the AI changed, honestly. I wanted to be reminded of how Half-Life really was, with weaker, less intelligent enemies most of the time, but enough of them to make it a challenge. Mainly, I would have liked to see the weapon buying changed so that there were the full compliment of modern (CS1.0+) weapons. These weapons wouldn't all be avalible, but rather would open up at points in the game where likewise you would have gotten increasingly powerful weapons in HL. Then, to top it off, I would like to see ammo more limited for some guns (ie, AWP), and the power of each gun modified to fit a nicer scaling of power. In CS, any gun can kill rather quickly. In CL, I would have liked for guns to feel and act the same, but for pistols to be very weak, assault rifles to be quite strong, and a better scaling of power to match what we remember from HL.

To be honest, with this mod, primarily I was hoping for HL with guns that looked real, and shot with the better accuracy and recoil characteristics that CS guns have over HL guns (ie, MP5 vs. 9mm automatic). I got that much, and while it wasn't everything I ever wanted, it provided me with a few hours of single player entertainment, completely free of charge. That's something I can't complain about. Thanks CL team. :)

I liked it! Plenty -0- wepons, lots of ammo, can't beat that. Picking off a grunt with the awp is strangly satisfying. Plus hey its free.

To comment about the zoom bug. Its still there. I enjoy a zoomed deagle for a while today!

Using the same ammo in the M249 and the M4 isn't a bug, it's a feature (they both chamber 5.56Nato); you can even use M-16 mags in the M249...
