damn man I can understand those guys who make the game might want to delay it to polish it up a bit but damn, they need 6 more months to do that? I find that hard to believe. It's probably another reason. But anyway i have no problem with the delay. Im perfectly content with CS now anyway.

Hysteria! What are the sources of this news? Sierra UK had no comment, why would they? The game is being developed in Dallas.

Anyone bother to confirm this news? Let me down, but at least do it honestly...

Anybody here remember the release of Tribes 2? Then the first patch, and the second, and the third... and the 14th... and the 15th... and so on, and now some of the programmers under the company name of GarageGames are trying to make a final patch to make the game work right (hopefully).

You guys want that kind of crap with CS:CZ? Tribes 2, while cool, wasn't half of what it could have been, simply because Sierra pushed it out the door too fast, and demanded that Dynamix release it before it was really done. I, for one, am glad that either Sierra learned their lesson, or that Valve and Gearbox have put down their foot and demanded time to really finish the game. When I get CZ, I want it to be all but bug-free, no frustrations, no constant updating because of problems. And if they decided that it's going to take them until November to do so, then so be it.

As far as the engine being outdated... well, for one, I'd be willing to bet that most of the community that plays CS currently will want to upgrade their system for CS:CZ. Yeah, honestly Doom 3 will come out not terribly long afterward (what, a half a year or a year maybe?), and will likely look amazing by comparison. If you've got the right hardware. Part of the appeal of CS currently is that you don't have to spend a couple thousand bucks on a top of the line gaming rig to have a good playing experience with it (so long as nobody tosses a smoke grenade, eh?). You think the whole community of gamers has the latest and greatest hardware?

I respect ID for always pushing technology forward, and some of us will be able to bask in the beauty of their newest game, when the time comes. I said beauty, not replayability. For the rest of the community, though, CS:CZ is promising to deliver the same level of awesome gameplay experience that has so far been unmatched, and on top of that, update the graphics to keep it "with the times", if not cutting edge. Another few years, yeah, CS:CZ will have that "old engine" look to it that the Half-Life engine now has. And at that point in time, CS2 will likely be released, and will push things a little further, keeping it modern, but not so modern that it excludes a lot of people.

Personally, I say thanks for delaying the game. Thanks for being willing to actually finish this game before sending it out the door. I won't say thanks for the earlier predicted release date, but I'd bet that Sierra is more responsible for that than anyone else.

There's my $0.02 on the subject...

I read in an interview about how the CPL is(or wants to) making a game which is more dependant on skill and less random. I even think some of the newer maps in cs are more skillfull which Im happy to see. Maps like dust are noob because you have 2 bottle necks where you know the opossing team has to come.
Actually I disagree with you about Dust being a n00b map because it doesn't require skill to play. Yes there's only two routes but how you use the map's terrain is what's key, and I say that even a map with only one "bottle neck" would still test skills other than DM in how you used that one route. It takes skill to move through the tunnel in Dust (or know when not to move through it, or know when to move through...etc etc) and not get dead, just as it takes skill to move through those hallways in Dust and not get dead.

True, some maps only test DM skills (cs_prospeedball, anyone?) but I would say that of the official maps, none are "n00b" maps and all require skill to effectively play on and not spend the majority of the round in chasecam.

I think CS:CZ and TF2 are sitting the same boat. I think TF2 was suppose to come out like 2 years ago, and now nothing. It baffles me.

Doom 3 and eve online will make cz look like pacman. But my all time favorite would still have to be cs for years to come. There is just something about it that makes it worth while even though the engine is so outdated.

One could theorise that this is due to CS 1.6 not being ready, as well ... indeed, this would not only dramatically skew the CZ timeline, but CS also.

I'm not sure if I entirely buy this article.

On CT I can hold off an entire team (5 people) by myself from just one spot. I'm not even sure if that has anything to do with what you just said but maybe my point is that it's unbalanced as faeuiowk?

edit: I guess it does because you mention only 2 ways to go, and I can hold both from one spot. I guess, maybe. I dunno.

cs is already way outdated... lots of people still play it.

graphics arent everything.. would you play a game that had soooo much eye candy but no gameplay?

Yes, yes I would. That doesn't mean I wouldn't stop playing CS. A big part of the reason CS is so popular is because it's outdated, meaning people with shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiite computers can actually play it. Just about any pentium ever can play it. Aaah, the good ol' days of HL on a p133. : )

People don't play cs for it's looks, they play it because the gameplay is fun. Regardless of what people will reply to this statement (hackers, bunnyhopping etc etc) it is very enjoyable to play and horribly addictive, especially when you play with people you know.

again narby is right. CS is addictive and the reason is because of the good gameplay which is also why its fun. Ive played Rogue Spear as my first game online and in a clan. Then Ghost Recon. And finaly CS which I have been playing for a year. Nothing can touch cs in terms of gameplay and fun. RS and GR were good but laged because lack of dedicated server support. GR had dedicated server support but nobody hosted for it. then there is no spectating while dead. you look at the ground, GG! And then the biggest part is the community if you ask me. CSN,CS movies, CPL, IRC, all leagues no matter how nub, all the news coverage and taking it to a level as to where it can even be considered a sport and enjoyable to watch. GG CS.

Still I like to be spoiled. CS2 anyone?

actually I just want to see a good game that will pick up where cs leaves off and make the giant leap. realism or no realism it needs to be more so based off of skill and the imperfections which lead to unfair advantages need to be fixed.

about the maps JdeFalconr. Yes it does require skill no matter if its 1 "bottle neck" or 2. But maps which are bigger and have more access routes require more skill.... more team strategy and more personal strategy comes into play. Im all about trying to make the game skillful as possible. If they truly want to make this a sport then there needs to be more skill required so there aren't lots of "l337" players. improved pub play as well as match play. no jumping in 1.4 was ok, no quick switch, now that was pushing it. yes its more real but now rather then the leet player who was good at it killing you... he's stuck waiting while you kill him. bg. If they are going to substitute things for realism then they need to make up for it in other ways.

You know I respect that opinion, I think that it would be great to produce a general increase in the level of skill of CS players. My experience, at least, is that as I increase in skill the game gets more fun...I assume that, if only from a teamplay perspective, others would agree.

However, we could speculate all day as to why the average skill level is the way it is, but my guesses are because
» The amount of time players have been playing CS or spend playing/researching the game with the goal of gaining skill.

» The amount of experience a player has.

» A possible correlation between basic ability level and age (there are lots of young CS players out there, i.e. <16...how many are pros?)
If CS lives long enough, perhaps we would see an increase in the mean skill level of players, like you're talking about.

I for one would love to play in pubs without having to put up with teammates who camp CT spawn on Italy or like to run around knifing each other instead of contributing to an attack or defense, or are perhaps so clueless about the game they aren't carrying their weight on the team. I was playing in a public server today and had some people using voicecomm to call out enemy movements, requests for backup, etc. and found my own such requests aknowledged, answered, and responded to. Boy was it great.

But for now we may have to just sit tight and let the community mature. A key factor in this, in my opinion, is what rizzuh talked about in the CS 3rd b-day article. Vet players can help out/encourage lesser-skilled players in order to "train" them or bring up their skill level. Such lesser-skilled players are an integral part of any growing game community and a necessary evil to bring more people to CS. With time, hopefully the newer players will turn vet and the resulting larger pool of such players will make things such as playing on the pubs a more enjoyable experience.
