Honestly, i think CS is dying. Do u all notice that when game developers are in desperation to continue some games' longevity, they try to release an expansion first, then to the climax of publishing retros, or classics of a game? This is where CS is coming to now. First, u see CSC. It tries to create an image to all of u that they wanted you to recapitulate what was CS in the old days. That is why it's called a 'classic'. Sooner or later(much sooner), this recreation will boil down. And now, i want to talk about CS:CZ.

Yes, I can say many CS fans and alike are really keen and anticipate much of the title. With it's marvellous graphics, more weapons, single-player missions, and et cetera, you can expect a lot from it. But I can prove it to you that it would not last long either. Just see from the graphics perspective alone. Thousands of polygons in a single player model? How much processing power you need to generate smooth game playing, let it be single player alone? How many CS fans in this world can afford to buy a good gaming pc just to harness the game's fullest potential? I do not even touch the multiplayer aspects yet. And yet, it will be released much sooner than you think(by next month if i'm not mistaken, correct me if i'm wrong). So by releasing it next month, can you expect people think: "ah, it's my time to upgrade my pc now, but where's the money?!". The time release for CS:CZ in conclusion is it is not congruent with the trend of people buying or upgrading new pc. IMHO, their marketing strategy needs some tweaking.

When this happens, there will be major CS players shifting their multiplayer experience from CS 1.X to CS:CZ. But do not be surprised that many unfortunate players there could not enjoy the privileges of playing the aforementioned game compared to previous CS counterparts. I am referring the unfortunate players as those who are still using 56K modems, outdated graphic cards or in-all, outdated pc. How can you attract more players to enjoy your game and being part of your CS community when now the latest CS incarnation is indirectly trying to bridge the gap between CS players who are more fortunate and the less fortunate ones?

CS has come to a point where retail versions, CPL tournaments, and notably this kind of website are keeping the game's longevity on fire. But it will reach to a certain way that you must implement the right thing to keep it's longevity. After all, CS is not popular for it's graphic marvel, it is the robust multiplayer component and it's gameplay that attracts us.

Finally, I wanted to say sorry for posting previous stupid and useless comments, but I am serious here. Maybe this long comment I have typewritten may not relate much to CSC, but...why don't you guys come up an idea how to continue the CS legacy with honour? I want to pinpoint your mistakes:1) CS 1.X upgrades are quite useless these days, revise back on what are the 'right things' to put in. 2)CS:CZ will indirectly shorten the CS legacy year span, do something with these.

I hope you take your time to read this, It may give you some points and it may not. But, I tried my best to voice out my comments. After all, what are message boards for?

well, heres my short mailbag "comments" post:

Why didnt we just put bunnyhopping back in the game because that is the only thing people were looking forward too. also, i dont like CSC.

ok puffy, feel free to rant on and criticize how much you hate my comment. PLEASE CRITICIZE ME!!! CRITICIZE IT NOW!!! PLZ PLLLZZZZ SAY SOMETHING MEAN AND NASTY!!!!! and if i get lucky, Rizzuh might join in and say something too! CRITICIZE AWAY!
If you mean put bunnyhopping back in the "real" CS then you're sadly mistaken about people wanting it. You only see half of the "argument" because the only ones really speaking up about it are those that want it back. Most of the community likes it how it is.

If you mean that they should just have CS-Classic be bunnyhopping then you're probably looking for that 1.3 jumping mod that's been released here and there. The old days weren't just about bunnyhopping, you know!

What made you think I was going to criticize your post, asshole?

A lot of future predicting bullshit
I think CS has already proven that it is unlike any other multiplayer game. Since I joined the community about 200 genius' decided to prophesize about the oncoming "end of Counter-Strike." As you may have surmised, none of these predictions have come true. CS doesn't fit into a normal timeline that you describe.

Valve is a relatively new developer so you cant really compare it to other big companies. From rumours it would seem Valve currently have HL2, CS2 and TF2 in development. Just because the last and only game they made came out 4 years ago doesnt mean they arent doing anything.

I think that because of the respect that Valve has earned from HL they havent been forced to release a game by Sierra/Vivendi or whatever the chuff theyre called. Instead they've been left to make the game and release it when they say its done, rather than the publisher bullying them into releasing a game every few years like so many others do.

Just to clarify for zim ... Sierra, in this case (actually, in most cases these days), is little more than a publisher (not in a true sense, since Sierra actually publishes through Vivendi). Sierra On-Line, the original developers of King's Quest, designed and published at least a hundred or so titles in the 80s and 90s, many of which were top sellers. Present-day Sierra doesn't actually take much part in development of their published titles (at least, not since the SWAT series). Sierra, in one form or another, has been around for over twenty years.

In other words, please get your facts straight before making it painfully aware to everyone else that you're twelve. Yes, that was a blatant flame.

youre right puffy, and i happen to not like the bunnyhopping. i know that csc is more than just bunnyhopping, but its mostly the only thing that ive really heard people talking about. not to say that theyre not talking about the other things that csc is all about which brings back all of the old cs memmories. some of it i liked, and some of it i disliked. so sorry ive missed all of the other comments people have been making but i havent been paying that much attention to csc. thats all i tried to say, sorry you took it the wrong way, or maybe i just said it the wrong way. i do it all the time. and its not like i dont appreciate csc, its just not my preferance. hope that was better said.

Well Valve better get moving because it's been almost 4-5 years since Half-Life was released. (1998, almost 4 years) And considering the fact we haven't heard ANYTHING about HL 2 or TFC 2 recently, I don't think we'll see either one very soon.

Ok... plasma screen LCD's are REALLY expensive. Not to mention the GeForce 4 Ti 4600 and AMD XP 1.8 GHz and the DDR RAM. That price is somewhat unbelievable.

it isn't if you live in taiwan and you have a uncle that serves as president of taiwan Sony and sold you the monitor for under 150 bucks :). everything else was cheap except for the TI 4600, which was the bulk of the money i spent, but still... i got one heckuva deal, i'll admit that.
