alright you little garbled pieces of trash (and i mean that in the best way possible), cs-classic is an awesome game, but it DOES need some work. for one, im not playing de_dust, de_dust2, de_aztec ETC, im playing old skool aztec and it was never better. I dont hear n00bs bitching about changing the maps, i just see them leave..know why? cause they dont know jack what to do. this mod is awesome. maybe its not ur cup-of-tea, but hell, its bitchin cool tea, and drink its bitterness down and learn to love it too (plzkthx ^^) i think the main hating came from the fact that there was only 4 maps, and only one map de_n00bdust..hey im entitled to my opinion rite?

Valve's not stupid. They know they can't milk Half-Life forever -- hell, they're probably just as surprised that they've managed to have the run they've had. Yes, the mod community is likely responsible for its longevity, but it's their stellar support for the mod community that's made Half-Life such a popular engine to begin with.

Valve also knows they can't hack together a sequel and expect it to run nearly as well. Most modern developers release a title and support it for a few short months (if that) -- Valve has been courting Half-Life for four years now. The fact that we're all still here should be proof enough that they know what they're doing. I'm as eager to see a new game from Valve as most, but also understand that they're not about to ignore Half-Life's raised expectations. Not that it really matters ... you lot of pseudo-jaded fanboys are gonna complain one way or the other.

STicKz -- I love the way you call everyone trash for voicing their opinions, then proclaim your entitlement to your own. Brilliant.

Obviously Valve hasn't been lazing around since Half-Life, but I can see why people are getting anxious.

Honestly, with the exception of patch releases, it does seem like Valve is doing nothing. I'm sure they're current projects are good, but it would really help their image among the '12 year old geeks' if they actually released a damn screenshot once in awhile (besides CZ).

When a company like Raven Software (Soldier of Fortune I/II, Jedi Outcast, Elite Force, Quake IV) goes and releases a great game every 8-12 months, it's easy to question Valve.

Oh, and I have no opinion on CSC. Personally, I hate mindless deathmatch (except Unreal Tournament- I don't know why...) but different strokes for different folks, right?

valve is just tryin to work too many projects at once is my guess.. thats why they arent coming out with things like every year

Raven's titles are good, but none of them near the impact of Half-Life, and few remain on the shelves and sell well after a year. Besides, they've only released a handful of titles since Hexen/Heretic, and with their apparently odd development cycles, I don't think you could exactly say they're putting out greats every 8-12 months.

SoF has never much appealed to me, but that's more personal preference. Outcast is great single-player for a while, but multiplayer doesn't nearly have the impact its predecessor had, even with its ancient netcode and lack of dedicated server capability. Elite Force is good, but seems to serve a mostly niche audience (not that that's a bad thing).

I wonder why people really care about CS classic when most of the people havent even played before 1.0...

Anyway Sierra/Vavle is a bad company. Look at their history and they have VERY few games they just take a few and milk them. Look at King's Quest didn't it go to like 10 or 15?

Now look at all those other good companies like EA, Rockstar, Blizzard etc. They bang out good games often and Valve gets NOTHING out in 4 years? I don't care if they are working. Working on a game not helping me at home. I don't care how good or bad CS2 will be, no good games from a company for four years means a company sucks.

Nice work puffy, your blend of humor is lighter with less calories than rizzuh's, so I feel confident when I label it 'guilt-free'. Excellent, sporadic use of images give it a nice touch. Keep it up, stab rizzuh in the back, and steal the site.

By the way, I hacked into your brain, and I found out you're actually an Apple II. So, I loaded my little program I wrote in Turtle and made squares!

I guess in a rare turn of events, I was actually an optimist when it came to CSC. I was more hoping for a nice, bug free version of one of the betas, incorporating the clean feel of 1.5 with say, beta 5.2, and coming up with a hybrid of the two that gameplay-wise felt like the beta, but still having the technological advances.

Alas, at least so far, what we've been offered is a disappointment. Not a complete disappointment, granted, as there's a good sign of response to community feedback (fixing some of those models quickly, for instance), but CSC may be CSC beta 5.2 before it can recreate a real feel of the CS betas, heh.

I don't understand those who feel that CSC will split the community. Honestly, CSC is a toy, a plaything that is fun for every once in a while, but we all know that CS is the game, and no upstart reversion will take that away even for a moment. The jumping is different, so what? That won't make it last. The maps are classic. Well... yes, I love some of these maps too. But we can still play them with 1.5 if we want to, it's just a matter of finding the right servers.

So yeah, the idea of CSC has potential, but the execution has been poor. Who knows, maybe someone else will give it a try with more modern code, and really give it a shot for all it's worth. I certainly think it's still a great idea, though obviously not where the main CS community will, or should for that matter, be heading.

The entire SWAT series, Empire Earth, Tribes 2, Alien vs Predator 2....all great games from Sierra.

Those companies have huge backings by major corporations as well so their budget is much higher than Valve's is. It takes a lot of money to release games on a regular basis like EA and Blizzard do.
