    CS Players Go AWOL pt.2

A while ago, CSports posted an article about many CS players leaving after CS 1.4. Recently, they posted a follow-up. Did those players come back? CSports answers the hard questions!
Not only was the patch worth waiting for an immediate play test but the download servers were able to process more players. Still at the end of the night it seems that around 30% of regular players (40% last time) had not been able to achieve a successful download.
    Oh dandy.

CS has me. I can't leave for another game; anything older sucks compared to CS, and anything on-par with it requires like a 400ghz computer and 20 TB of hard drive space, not to mention more RAM than I could shake a fist at.

Where the hell do they get the '1.5 million players' figure? HL has like 1million players online max (right now hl has 55687 players online across all mods, how can that equate to a million in a day?)

Hell, 1.5 million people gone from cs, there are negative numbers of players on the servers :E

Yes there are 2million or so wonids, but Id guess a hell of a lot of them are used only once and csports.net just blindly count them as 'active players' :/

I leave CS sporadicly. I got bored of 1.3 and 1.4 brought me back into CS.

I still play CS a lot... it would just be more fun if I had a new comp since everyone has their Alienware 100FPS machines, I can't compete with that...

Oh well, 1.3 was probably the best CS got, and ever will from the looks of it...

That's only my opinion... don't hurt meeee.

I've been playing CS since beta 1.1, at that time there were about 150-200 servers max! Those were the good old days, Thanks to the guy who released that "Those were the days" map pack by the way... Anyways, I think more people are GOING to leave CS, simply because it's getting boring now. Your either "l337" or "n00b", if you are some where in between, no one looks at you, that's where I fall in. I personally think Counter-Strike was better ~ Beta 5.5, sorry if you don't agree, but that's how I remember CS at its best, and yes, I am going to leave the CS community soon, it's just gotten to boring... I'm sure a lot of you know what I mean to. Give us back 1.3 at least guys...

[i would check article again to see if i was right but it has stupid thing where u can only view once a day before u have to sign up or something]

but am i mistaken or is this article focusing more on the number of cs players on the days the patches are released.. like how there is a big dropoff when everything is upgraded and they are looking at how quickly it can get back up to normal... cuz the graphs are like in hours, not days

                  i think?

I would like to add a minor discussion point to the original prognosis. Is the optimum time to release a major patch to the online community, the time when the most number of players are online? I am sure it makes sense from an operational point of view. At 11am everyone is in, briefed up, and ready to go for a hard day dealing with the inevitable problems that arise. However, it has got to be a nightmare from a distribution point of view as is plain to see from the overwhelmed download servers out there. Our graphs are merely a reflection of this.
This is a very good point...perhaps it would be best if the patches were released at a time when less people would be online, like in the middle of the night, and then as the day (or the next day) progresses and people wake up or get a chance to download the files, there would be less stress on the servers at any given moment.

Then again, I'm willing to bet quite a few people would stay up to d/l the patch...or perhaps CS staff need to be monitoring the release...?

Protocal, I totally agree with you. I've been playing CS for about 2 years, and am really saddened by how things have changed. They have slowly made CS a n00b sport more and more each day. First, they removed bunny-hopping. Later, played with recoil and gun accuracy. Cheaters are now running rampent. And the last straw that broke the camel's back, for me, was the last jumping change. What Valve and gooseman have done is completely outragous. I'm really wondering how many veterans are leaving or have already done so. And this VAC... Does anyone actually think that Valve is going to make this thing work? Think about it, if they actually got rid of cheating, they would lose a HUGE percent of their market. This VAC is just something to show that they are "trying" to help. I'm really disapointed in the changes that have taken place, and I wish they would let us go back... The worst thing of it all, was that they wouldn't even let us continue to play 1.3. They were FORCING us to upgrade. I haven't even upgraded to 1.5 because what CS has become today just sickens me. But I will watch, wait, and pray, that some day... CS will go back to how it was in the good'ol days. Till then, this is goodbye...
