I don't quite see what the problem with chateau is. I've noticed no major FPS problems. Plus, site A is just damned cool.Lord Radiation wrote..
I do. I found out when i played on it last night.
All big maps suck...so I have to go with Piranesi....What we need is more maps like fy_iceworld!!!!! I dont know why maps like that arent official.. also cs_bloodstrike and awp_map
Vegas really didn't seem that bad. It's one of those maps that aren't on servers enough to form a solid opinion. If anyone can tell me what the hell that little tower at the T spawn is for, that'd be nice.
Survivor got my vote, but mostly on technicalities. I like maps where i can actually see my crosshair, and the pastel colors we have to choose from don't really cut it. It's also pretty weak that the Ts have snow camo while the CTs stand out like 3-breasted hookers. Might as well make it a NIGHT based snow map, to even the contrast and give the CT skins less of a disadvantage. Right now it's like playing in a map that has "reverse shadows", or like you're constantly suffering from a partial FB.
Storm...eh. Could've been worse. I'd play it over Dust any day.
Torn sucked in many ways. The FPS and the long corridors to name 2. Big maps with lots of narrow passages = suck. The middle bombsite was a deathtrap. Most of the problems have been acknowledged by the mapper.
Piranesi, i have no idea. I've played it less than Vegas. Last time i played it as a T, i wasn't impressed with the bombsite to the left of the wall. In fact, i wasn't impressed with that bridge/wall PERIOD.
de_prodigy needs to be on that poll. The mapper could've saved the players on both teams a lot of trouble by just putting undiscriminating turrets in the main hallway. Cobble is another doozy.Comment

Like I said, I've grown quite fond of chateau since a few mailbags ago. Even before that, however, I knew that bombsite A was easily the best bombsite ever put into counter-strike. Why? Well, my friends, I do not know!

If the server has more than 12 people de_dust is the worst map. But ive had some great 2v2 and 3v3 matches.
Every other map owns, with the exception of survivor. I might as well be using a scout unzoomed on this map.
de_piranesi has grown on me for some reason. I think it might be the amazingly easy hs from on top of the castle. But I don't ever go CT on that map....... ever.Comment

OlSpazzy, I agree entirely, I think the new maps that are getting added just get bigger and bigger, they also seem dark and gloomy, which is fun for a while but there is the element of simplicity that u want in map, which these maps tend to be losing. I agree that dust is overplayed, however it has good reason to be. The textures are simple and the gameplay is fun for both advanced players and n00bs. There also aren't any sounds that make it feel like it's 4 in the morning (cough vegas cough). A couple of my other favorites are aztec and dust2. They both have areas in the map where you can snipe or have a close range battle. Also a huge element in these maps is that the bombsites are relatively easy to get to making it more fair for the CT's. There is also a lot of strategy involved.
BTW: whoever said dust and aztec are n00b maps, shame on you because you are very wrong. Aztec is one of the most professionally played maps all over the world so :P
If there was an all of the above choice for worst map I would be quick to choose :]
Oh and bring back arabstreets WOOOEEE!

You mean, people who struggle to find new strategies beyond bunnyhopping play Aztec a lot? Wow. That really lends some mighty strong credibility to the map. What an excellent defense of that map. For a second, i thought you were going to use people that mattered for your example.

No doubt, arabstreets was awesome, but it's also a CS map, not DE, so not exactly on-topic. But hey, who wants to stay on topic?
Personally, as much as I despise survivor for the pure team-splitting chaos that it perpetuates, I actually hate rotterdam worse. I don't know what it is about that map that bugs me so much. It has many elements from various other maps that I really like... yet just manages to put them all together in a way that doesn't appeal to me in any way.
A few of you hate cobble and prodigy, and I have sort of a love-hate relationship with both of those maps. I think it has to do with just the extreme outcomes of the games... seems like one team or the other will just dominate for round after round in both of those. So while it's fun at times, getting outrageous ratios and laying down the smack, it can also really suck when you're on the receiving end, watching teammates fall like flies in the first half minute of the round.
Of course, this is only for DE maps. For -any- map... well, awp_map ranks as my all time most absolutely hated map ever, followed by the speedball maps, bloodstrike, and such deathmatch maps. They have their place for simply improving your deathmatch skills, I suppose, but they just ruin the essence of what CS is.
I'm not a huge fan of some of the newer maps, though they're not all bad. I just have a preference for vibrant maps (though not gawdy looking, which is how vegas comes across to me), and found thunder and torn to both be a pleasure to play in simply because they were brighter and more "happy", heh. I know, everyone else hates torn... perhaps that's why I like it. I always destroy the other team on that map, doesn't matter which side I'm on. Probably because they're all so busy complaining to change the map that they don't take the time to learn it, heh. :) Storm is kind of like a darker version of that, though not nearly to the same extent.
Did anyone ever stop to consider that maps are "overplayed" because people love them so much?
And yes, as_oilrig is perhaps my favorite map of all time. Seems like a lot of people dislike assassination maps, though, understandably, because one idiot VIP can lose it for the team. Still love that map, though... seems like such a more intense, unknown battle on either side, with a more "realistic" setting it seems than running to some random bomb somewhere. Protecting a person is just more fun. :)Comment

Good sir, please tell me you know of CAL/CPL. Yes? Good. That should be all the credibility I need to give to such a glorious map. For anyone to even suggest that aztec is not the most popular league map out there is insane, but you went the extra mile and even managed to label it a "n00b" map. Perhaps you, good sir, are the n00b?
