I prefer to find my models myself, individually. Then again, I'd really like to see the "Low Poly" Model Pack (read: "Does your computer suck? You might want this.")

I use Merc pack and have to say that it is one of the better packs. I also like fusion pack but it's all on taste.

this pack is quite unbalaced and heavy.....even on my powerful comp (p4, 512 DDR)....whomever...created this pack wanted to it to have a cool rep....with cool models and cool sounds and sprites...and it does have cool stuff in it... but this pack is wildly inconsistent, it is constantly being tweaked and changed with new models being added..because the creaters probably think that by constantly updating, they are keeping up with the latest and fanciest in CS skins and their quality which is understandable...but this is where the unbalanced factor comes in...a lot of these fancy skins just dont mix with each other...yes they look very nice but they just dont blend..and those polys tend to take a tole on even reasonably powerful computers...I advise the creaters to look at the csru pack. Now that pack is a perfect example of how packs should be....high quality skins, sounds, and sprites that blend and mix perfectly without causing a noticable decrease in performance...u see the creaters of that pack took their time and were always on the lookout for skins that were yes nice looking but would also blend with the other skins. So what is my advice to the Mercenary Pack team? take your time and be a little more picky and choosy with the content that you choose. Not only do you need quality but you need consistency.

Games-Fusion pack sucks....I have more hope in Merc Pack then Games-Fusion pack....the merc pack team has very good potential

I really don't like getting into pack vs pack discussions...especially when the CSU guys aren't here to reply. But since the topic was raised, here's my personal opinions of CSU 3.0 Build 2:

          Pros

          -very nice installation wizard

-good gui alterations (even has new sounds)

          -excellent weapons/radio/ambience sound effects

          -good player models selection

          Cons

-a lot of the weapons models haven't been changed (original lowpoly's)

-the pack causes the game to crash when you use the standard weapons vgui menu

-the weapons models haven't been updated for CS 1.4/1.5 (lefty only unless you manually rename them)

-no basic viewing/editing tools are provided

          Now about MercPack

          -Inconsistency

Models are only changed when we find better ones to replace them. That doesn't mean that the previous ones were crappy or that we just through them in there. Quite the opposite actually. Were extremely picky about what models go in the pack. For example; In v2.3 we were thinking about changing the AWP, but after testing 40+ AWP models first hand, we decided not to.

There are just so many models out there that it's impossible to get a perfect selection the first time.

          -Blending

I'm not sure what you mean by blending. If you mean that all the weapons aren't the same color, then yep, that's true. I don't like having them all look the same. It's unlrealistic and just makes the game seem dull after a while.

          -Balance

Having a complete set of high quality models is much more balanced/consistent then having a mix of low and high quality ones. Also, you shouldn't be having any performance issues with MP2.x on a system like yours. The primary test/build system, which is a Duron @ 1GHz / Voodoo3 @ 175MHz, runs the pack very well.

Now I want to make this very clear; I'm not putting down CSU's pack. I think the CSU guys are doing a great job, much better then most IMO.

OK Ravage I dont think you'll see this post as this news is days old but ill shoot anyway. First of all there is a new version of CS(R) Update Out (3.1) and it is compatible with 1.4/1.5. Second, I have respect for you guys and do not think in any way that ur pack sucks. You guys can tell a shit skin/model from an excellent skin/model unlike some and you do not have any bad or ugly content in your pack. Though I am not attractive to your pack for the reasons I have stated in my previous post.

            BLENDING

-I think this issue I think is a matter of taste. What I mean by models blending with each other is that they just look like they should be with eachother. Meaning they dont have a huge difference in size, feel, and color and look nice with eachother. I find that the csru pack does an excellent job of doing this. They dont seek to use just the latest in skins but the skin also has to look well balanced with the other skins. You see I believe that a good pack of skins should yes, look good as an individual skin but also have to look good with and be balanced with the other skins. I hope you see what I mean by this as we obviously have a different taste regarding this issue.

            INCONSISTENCY

-Im sure you are picky about you're skins and I probably should not have said that you were not. But you are constantly adding tweaks and changes to your pack. Now I can understand you updating the other programs like rizzuhs scripting pack and the other stuff, but I dont think a good pack should contantly be adding changes. As I said before, I think a pack of skins should look good wtih eachother well not just one fancy skin after another. I think you guys should just take more time, and choose models that blend best with eachother instead of choosing one fuckingly sexy skin after another. Again this is a matter of opinion.

            BALANCE

-Yes your pack's content is definely all high quality. But agian, they just dont blend...that is in my opinion! the csru pack does not replace skins that do not need to be replaced. There isnt a big performance decrease with your pack and my comp yet it is noticable. Maybe it's cause my video card is a measely Nvidia TNT2 or my monitors only 15 inches yet I run CS in 800 by 600 mode. I Dont Know.

            Conclusion

The Merc pack has excellent content, yet in my opinion it's just not balanced.

I must of went to their old site, 3.0:B2 was the latest version there (damn you google..)
I think this issue I think is a matter of taste. What I mean by models blending with each other is that they just look like they should be with eachother. Meaning they dont have a huge difference in size, feel, and color and look nice with eachother.
hmm...I disagree. The original CS models are very different in color, texture, size and shape

(wood, metal, plastic....green, red, brown, blue, black, silver, chrome..)
Im sure you are picky about you're skins and I probably should not have said that you were not. But you are constantly adding tweaks and changes to your pack. I disagree :P I've seen a lot of good packs go south because the creators didn't maintain it. (l337 clans pack comes to mind..) The main reason we created the pack was to provide the very best customs models/sounds in one package, no compromises. As we find better models/sounds (not necessarily newer) we add them to the pack. We never replace anything just for the sake of replacing it.
Yes your pack's content is definely all high quality. But again, they just dont blend...that is in my opinion! the csru pack does not replace skins that do not need to be replaced.
I understand what your saying...but it just doesn't feel like a complete ModPack unless you replace all the models/sounds...not replacing all of them makes it feel unbalanced IMO. Having a 3000 poly rifle next to a 400 poly rifle just doesn't look right. As long as I stick with realistic weapons, I don't see how any of them could look out of place.
Dammit I keep repeating myself doh! OK Ravage you win :p
              hehe =)
