    RiTD Press Conference

Tonight, Rumble in The Desert, former top counter-strike league, held a press conference announcing it's return. Along with the given invitational counter-strike division, they will be adding invitation Quake 3 and Return to Castle Wolfenstein (like you care . I attended the conference and represented CS-Nation, and asked many questions and saw several as well. Here are the highlights from the conference which I deemed interesting and of note for the league:[break]
PCN|Xost> In terms of your Counter-Strike division, Do you see RiTD being a teams first choice league against the powerhouse league, CAL - and secondary league, RGL?

[RiTD]-Covert> I would like for RiTD to again become the main proving ground for top-tier teams in CS, but whether or not it surpasses other leagues is not a real concern

CS-Nation|Sublyme> How will schedules be determined? How long will each season be?

[RiTD]-Covert> Well, im actually glad you asked about scheduling. RiTD has coded into the site a scheduling system that will generate a new schedule every week based on the rankings of each team. This will help keep the matches even and less one sided, as well as prevent a team disbanding effecting a whole seasons schedule.

[RiTD]-Covert> each season will be an 8 week regular season, and 3 weeks of playoffs with 8 teams advancing from east.west. This applies for all games

CS-Nation|Sublyme> Does RiTD ever plan on expanding to LAN events as well, ala CPL?

[RiTD]-Covert> RiTD has actually talked to a number of venues, including some very nice ones located in Chicago and Florida. We have also talked to a few companies about lan sponsorship, but at this time our main focus is running the league to the best of our ability. If the option to run lan events opens up, then RiTD will surely strike at it.

CS-Nation|Sublyme> RiTD was formerly ran by top counter-strike clan Green Berets. Since RiTD's last season, GB has disbanded. Have any former GB members had any input in the re-opening of RITD, or is this largely just a new ownership?

[RiTD]-Covert> I have been in constant contact with former GB member/RiTD owner Torbull, who is not on the advisory board for RiTD. He has given much feedback and input to RiTD, and is excited about its return.

[RiTD]-Covert> I have also talked a few time with the former-GB leader, platinum. He as well has given some feedback and input (although very little), and is pleased with RiTDs return.

CS-Nation|Sublyme> Other leagues, such as CAL and RGL for example, have created their own custom maps in order to improve teamplay and force more even matches. Does RiTD have any custom maps planned for match play?

[RiTD]-Covert> No, RiTD does not plan to use any custom maps. Custom maps ussually cause much fustration come time for teams to play matches on them, and dont get used from one league to another, so dont really play much importance to the competative scene.

XSR|MarksMan> Will the league be using the 7v7 format, the one that many people are still in support of and the format the league got its roots on, or will it go to the "standard" 5v5?

[RiTD]-Covert> RiTD will be using the "standard" 5v5 format, but we have recieved a lot of feedback about running a 7v7 division again purely for fun. Many people have actually contacted me about admining it, so there is a strong possability it will happen. It will be a side division though, not part of the league's official divisions.

CS-Nation|Sublyme> CAL is enforcing a WONID rule to ensure teams do not use ringers in matches. Will this league be run on the honor system or will a similar WONID system be enforced?

[RiTD]-Covert> we will be enforcing a similar WonID rule. We will be adding the option in a users preferences to list their HL WonID once the CS division gets started. When we do that, you will need to have that filled out to join a team.

[RiTD]-Covert> if a violation is found with WonIDs (or cheating), the player(s) found guilty will be banned from the league, for the remainder of the season, or up to a perminate ban. The team using the ringer will be suspended anywhere from a few weeks to a whole season, and repeat happenings in the same team will result in a ban.
Personally, I believe this league will be giving CAL a run for it's money, given that RiTD was the big daddy before CAL and will be introducing many new elements that seem like improvements for league play. Whether it does or not we've yet to see, but hopefully we'll hear more in the future.
