This weekend, teams will converge in ten places around the U.S. as the fourth weekend of CPL Regional Qualifiers commences. Several of the events have teams still listed as "pending" that we might have thought to be more prepared. Still others show potential for creating some great matches. Here are just a few:
To start things off, it may be worth noting that some of the first LAN tournaments are happening in which CAL
raft League teams are becomming involved. There have been a few already, but it was a bit of a pleasant suprise to see Fraggers and Red Legion both listed for this weekend alone. Both at events that are quite close (nothern IL, southern WI). Those events are Lan Planet, in Rockford, IL, and MPC Cyber Center, in Greenfield, WI.
The next mentionable comes from the potential for a great match (finals match?) that can be seen in the listed pending teams for the Net Heads event. Pitting team noEqual, 0e, against Darkside, D|S, could be one of the most interesting bouts worth seeing this weekend.
Possibly the most interesting event could be at The Gaming Center where the pending teams list is long and populated with talent. Two more draft teams are listed as well as some strong talent in Reality Check, ExS, and Eminence (not to mention the draft teams irongiants and Minds over Mice). Two other teams are listed as pending approval, but it's a shot in the dark as to whether or not they will get it. Those teams are Riot Squad, rs, and Texas Area Untouchable, TAU. The strong rivalry between them recently led into a heated argument and eventually a fight, at the recent Tango LAN. We'll have to see what happens.
Last, but certainly not least, is the Web2Zone event. This looks to be one of the biggest qualifiers for the coming championship, by far, and it's anyone's guess as to who will win here. The first place finish should nearly definitely go to powerhouse team 3D, but their competition should be a notch above what the divisional qualifier was, and it's anyone's guess as to who will give them a run for their money.
