Um. Since when is Counterstrike a sport? How do you begin to analyse this? Yesterday I was kinda tired so I took a 5 hour nap and when I woke up, no1 informed me of this occurence. I think the Olympic Commitee got kinda bored with their sports and decided to hook up a LAN and give out medals. Interesting.



I guess it is a sport...Get out your sweat pants, stop watches and Gatorade all CS players. Counter-Strike is the premier sport of the 2004 Olympics...SHADDUP.

If you want to define a sport as an activity in which someone competes with and against others for the accomplishment of some set goal, then yes... Counter-Strike is a sport. If you want to narrowmindedly define sports as only physical activities, then you will rule CS out. However, when you realize that golf is considered a sport, despite the very small amount of physical activity involved, and even curling (essentially an icebound version of golf with some extra flares to it) is an olympic sport, then it's not too terribly hard to stretch your imagination to see that perhaps an online competitive event could indeed be considered a sport.



So yeah, I view CS as a sport, and a game, much like basketball is both a sport and a game. Not everyone will, and some will view it as somehow pathetic or wrong to do so. However, I can't say I see much difference in what's really going on between a bunch of friends going out to a hoop and playing some ball, and a bunch of friends jumping online and playing a few rounds together. Either way, it's friends competing for fun, and for the love of the game.



And just like wrestling has been very, very slowly starting to integrate girls into a very male-dominated sport, so CS will do the same. I think perhaps a lot of guys in CS don't deal well with girls playing for the same reason that a lot of guy wrestlers don't deal well with girls playing -- the fear of losing to a female, and the humiliation that a guy's ego can suffer as a result. Perhaps it's time we all got over our superiority complexes, and welcomed all players, regardless of gender (and no ~The Observer~, "gender" and "sexuality" are not interchangable terms, heh).

man it is sorta strange how guys can suddenly act like dicks when a girl comes on. But i play with girls all the time and they own (not me of course!!! lol =p) and very nice to play with
