    Level of the Week

Planet Half-Life has started its latest weekly feature: Counter-Strike Level of the Week. The first issue takes a look at de_sampa. Here's a bit:
Thankfully, this week I was able to find a map worthy of being rewarded with the title of LotW. While it may have its faults, DE_Sampa has many successes under its belt.

De_Sampa is the second map released by Mataleone and Crocodilo, and comes exactly one year after their first, 'CS_Rio'. The two conspirators come from Brazil, a place which obviously inspires them, considering that both of their maps are set there. The Mayor of Sao Paulo has lowered the prices of the subway and bus tickets and in retaliation the 'alternative transport crew' has promised to strike back. The terrorists' aim is to blow up the subway command or the bus ticket house, while the Counter-Terrorists are obviously meant to stop them.
Read the rest here. Custom maps are rarely popular in CS, likely due to the CS team's official frown on them, but maybe they'll catch on sooner than later.

Yes, maybe a small site dedicated to custom maps would be a good idea - informing players on what ones are worth their time.

some custom maps can be popular, de_heat is played on a few servers as well as assault remakes. also cs_rio is popular someplaces, and also one of mym fav maps. but yes, there are way too many maps out there to go through to find good ones.

I agree with crazynewbieguy, a Csnation map of the month would be great. I mean, everyone has to get their start somewhere, maybe there is the next DaveJ out there but just needs to get recognized! And plus, it adds more to our game, our abilities and our fun! I definately think what scotts saying is true as well. Id love to see more great maps, and its annoying joining aserver and having to wait forever to dl the map, not knowing how its goign to turn out. This way like he said, we can get map reviews and download them faster

Partly because CS is a mod, and it's based on half-life. Seeing as hl uses levels, it's an obvious. Although that's just partly the reason.
