CS 1.4 Workarounds

On the CS Central forums, Wolflord has posted a nifty little trick for those of you who can't seem to start CS or are having troubles with it loading.

I believe I found the solution as to why some of us are unable to run CS with the new patch..If you look in the updates you will see mention of DirectSound. Myself I have an old Awe64 and so I went to Start->Run->(type)dxdiag and hit enter.

Click on the tab for sound and locate the slider for Hardware acceleration...Move it up to max and run the test if you like....My card tested okay and now I can launch CS without a hitch...Hope this helps!

It has been confirmed to work and should help you guys (and gals) out immensely!



The second workaround comes from Planet Half-Life. If you are having problems with HL/CS crashing to your desktop, Eric Christopher Nielsen has suggested a fix. Try adding "-****audio" to the Half-Life command line in the shortcut.

does anyone know if this will fix the problem with trying to run winamp at the same time as creating a server on a LAN? it wont create.

I found a fix go Control Panel then click on Multimedia then change playback to "Use any available device" i also change recording to this. When you enter counter-strike you will not have any sound till you join a game hope this help please say if it fix your problem

didnt work, when i try to create a server it just freezes right before the text would come up "Build...." and what not, thanks for trying to help though

New version and they still haven't fixed the no-radar bug after you hit "retry" in the console or switch servers,

try changing over to directX in cs opengl does same thing to me only directX work for me

Does anyone know why I can't load chateau or havana and how I could fix this problem
