On the CS Central forums, Wolflord has posted a nifty little trick for those of you who can't seem to start CS or are having troubles with it loading.
The second workaround comes from Planet Half-Life. If you are having problems with HL/CS crashing to your desktop, Eric Christopher Nielsen has suggested a fix. Try adding "-****audio" to the Half-Life command line in the shortcut.
Thanks to CS Central and Planet Half-Life for the help. If you have anymore suggestions/fixes, then post them in the comments.
I believe I found the solution as to why some of us are unable to run CS with the new patch..If you look in the updates you will see mention of DirectSound. Myself I have an old Awe64 and so I went to Start->Run->(type)dxdiag and hit enter. It has been confirmed to work and should help you guys (and gals) out immensely!
Click on the tab for sound and locate the slider for Hardware acceleration...Move it up to max and run the test if you like....My card tested okay and now I can launch CS without a hitch...Hope this helps!
